Thanks for the update!
How are the alternates to the Jones-Smith tracks? I've heard the "Lady Be Good" alternate, and it's great, but I haven't hear the other two yet. (And I haven't ordered my set yet. It's on the wishlist!)

Re: mosaic sets
They sound great. There's one alt of each of Shoe Shine Boy, Evenin', Lady Be Good and Boogie Woogie. I'm not qualified to give any kind of analysis - but to me, they all sound amazing, and there's certainly enough fun differences to make them worth having.
Re: mosaic sets
Cool, thanks! I'm really looking forward to hearing these.
(The alt to "Shoe Shine Boy" was already known. The other three are new--that is, they were discovered in a basement a year or two ago.)

Shows I should do some more research before replying to posts
I did not know that. Haven't had a chance to read the liner notes yet though - I always look forward to that on one of these sets.

Re: mosaic sets
Just logged on the say that this is a great set - must have!
The highlight for me is the Una Mae Carlisle session which has been sourced from metal parts and sounds like it was recorded yesterday. Also has the best quality version of one of my DJ faves; “Goon Drag” by Sam Price and His Texas Bluesicians

Re: mosaic sets
Sounds awesome! Would any of you want to write up a short review for the September episode of my Hey Mister Jesse podcast? Would love to share a review from an expert on the show!

I would happily, but I think one of the more knowledgable folk would do a better job. Let me know if there's no other takers.

Re: mosaic sets
Heard the most recent HMJ podcast mentioning the Mosaic set and had to come here. I've only listened to the SoundCloud samples they have up, but man...such crisp quality. The drums on Jive at Five are so clear!
It's on the wishlist for me as well.

Re: mosaic sets
Hi,
I was catching up on listening to the last two Hey Mister Jesse podcasts and one of them had mentioned a 5 disc Mosaic box set but I wasn't seeing anything in the show notes. Does anyone happen to recall the name of the 5 disc box set they mentioned?
Thanks,
Larana27

Was it the 8 disc Count Basie/Lester Young set?

Re: mosaic sets
Yup, we talked about the Mosaic set on the September episode. It was trev's review during the news section, and there is a link to the set there. We also talked about a 5-CD set of live Basie recordings, called "Complete Live at the Crescendo 1958" on the October podcast, but it is not on Mosaic. The link is the feedback section, under Wil Reed's comment, but you can also find it here.trev wrote:Was it the 8 disc Count Basie/Lester Young set?larana27 wrote:I was catching up on listening to the last two Hey Mister Jesse podcasts and one of them had mentioned a 5 disc Mosaic box set but I wasn't seeing anything in the show notes. Hope that helps!

Re: mosaic sets
Here's a fun rumour about a set in the works: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index. ... on-mosaic/
Teddy Wilson, non-Billie Holiday recordings, 1939-1942. This should pick up around where the Hep releases left off--the last one in that series ("Jumpin' for Joy") is a set of recordings from 1939 and 1940.
Edit: apparently it's 1934-1942, so the 1934-1940 stuff will overlap with the Hep releases. Still, want.

Re: mosaic sets
Quite a few sets of definite interest to "us" are threatening to sell out:
Classic Earl Hines Sessions 1928-1945
Chick Webb & Ella Fitzgerald Decca Sessions 1934-1941
Eddie Condon & Bud Freeman Complete Commodore & Decca Sessions
And, somewhat less interesting but perhaps still your thing:
Mosaic Select Woody Herman
Rosemary Clooney CBS Radio Recordings 1955-1961
