Benny Goodman BPM speed up?

Hello to all-!

Does the tempo increase here at the 3:11 mark? Sounds like it to me.I took the cymbal action that kicks in there into account, but I still hear an increase in tempo.

You tapped it out using your fingers? if so, I really need someone to use a BPM machine as the increase in tempo is very sublime. (sublime!)

I too tapped the tempo out - not sure if you can find a reliable program to auto-detect the tempo of the subtle rhythm section in a live performance like that - and the tempo is fairly consistent throughout the song. The tempo stays mostly in the 185-190 bpm range, maybe reaching 195 at its fastest. The greatest tempo increase I noticed was around 2:23 as the tenor sax solo started. No noticeable tempo increase at your 3:11 point though IMHO. Hope that helps for what its worth.

I'm all over YT all the time these days and finding some great and scarce stuff. I usually send them over to JazzWax. He only uses maybe a third of what I send over. And he likes an exclusive until he breaks them. I can post them here, too, if you want and there is a designated section for them.

Actually, @ around 3.11, I think the instruments might have swung into the song a tiny bit earlier than the drum beat, giving it a feeling of being 'offbeat,' for a moment.. It stays on rhythm overall, though..

I have use the API analyse/tempo of the sonicapi web service (https://www.sonicapi.com/docs/api/analyze-tempo).
The engine behind is the one use by very famous DJ applications.
If you have been using automatic tempo detection with swing music you probably know there are often wrong by a factor 2.
I had to multiply by 2 the result given by the web service.
The client calling the web service was the development version of the software I'm writing for social-dance DJ, maybe you remenber my 2 years old post about it ! If you want news of this software you can have a look to the initial post

If you have an android smartphone, get Beat Droid - a free app (I'm sure there's something similar for iPhone). You tap the screen to the beat of the music, and it tells you the BPM. You could try it for the 20 seconds before your spot, and the 20 secs after and compare
