Some lovely tracks on this Edmond Hall album:

Yup, some great late (mid-40's) swing. Only the first four tracks feature Edmond Hall though, so eMusic has the album credits wrong.Haydn wrote:Some lovely tracks on this Edmond Hall album:

I'm really enjoying this.
Also some more Ellington radio transcriptions for you DP

Yeah, I got that one, Russ. It's good. I like 'Bugle Breaks' and 'John Hardy' a lot. But my favourite is Ellington at the Hollywood Empire: Original 1949 Transcriptions:russell wrote:Also some more Ellington radio transcriptions for you DP

There's a version of 'CJam Blues' which is AMAZING - I played it at Canberrang one late night (you might have heard it?).
I'm a big fat sucker for these transcripts at the moment. I especially love the announcements. Soon my sets are going to be nothing but crackly spoken intros and outros.
... I think I especially like the Ellington ones because they often feel a bit wilder and a bit more energised than some of the more familiar jobs - as though they were letting go a bit more...
I really enjoyed the two above album recommendations. I searched on Duke Ellington's material too and I found the following box set of radio transcriptions and live recordings:dogpossum wrote:Yeah, I got that one, Russ. It's good. It includes also the aforementioned 1949 transcriptions.

Johnny Moore's Three Blazers - Be Cool
Not sure how long it's been there, but this CD on the Ace label is full of good stuff -
Be Cool: The Modern & Dolphin Sessions

Just come across this set of compilations put together by one 'DJ Wuthe' - two entitled 'Swing for Dancers', one slow, one medium, and four entitled 'Balboa Swing'.
I've not more than glance through the 'Swing for Dancers' compilations - but it looks like there's some pretty solid stuff on them, and if nothing else they'd be an excellent resource for a new DJ. Listening through the Balboa albums at the moment, and there's a lot of the usual suspects, plus quite a few great tracks I've not heard before. Well worth a look.

They're also available on Spotify.
[EDIT]Also available to download on Amazon (UK)[/EDIT]

These are compilations put together by German DJ Steven Wuthe from his massive 78 rpm record collection. I discussed Steven and his compilations in the news on episode #49 of Hey Mister Jesse (thanks to the recommendation from Robert Cullen in the Netherlands).straycat wrote:Just come across this set of compilations put together by one 'DJ Wuthe' - two entitled 'Swing for Dancers', one slow, one medium, and four entitled 'Balboa Swing'.

I think that the above link is wrong. Is it supposed to point to an eMusic list of songs?straycat wrote: http://www.emusic.com/search.html?QT=dj+wuthe&mode=b
[edit] Or maybe, his compilations are not available on eMusic USA. Did he make them from his 78 collection?[/edit]
Thanks,
Lorenzo
Hey!! There's a Hudson-De Lange Orchestra track on there! And a track by Will Hudson and His Seven Swingsters! (Both on Balboa Vol. 3). And one more Will Hudson track (on Balboa Vol. 4)! Nice!straycat wrote:Just come across this set of compilations put together by one 'DJ Wuthe' - two entitled 'Swing for Dancers', one slow, one medium, and four entitled 'Balboa Swing'.
