Glenn Miller Plays Duke Ellington

#1 Post by Eyeball » Mon Mar 09, 2009 7:19 am

Every now and then I realize that Glenn Miller played enough material by one composer to make up an entire album, if such was programmed.

I realized he had Ellington material yesterday when I heard a broadcast version of, of all things, "IN A JAM"!

But he also has-
TAKE THE 'A' TRAIN
SOLITUDE
SOPHISTICATED LADY

and others which I will try and remember later

Also - the great I DREAMT I DWELT IN HARLEM which is based upon the chord changes of "A" TRAIN (and is a play on words of the old title I DREAMT I DWELT IN MARBLE HALLS.)

If you know of others, please add them.

RCA got an entire CD out of MILLER PLAYS (Johnny) MERCER.
