That's another song that there seems to be loads of great versions of. I have recently enjoyed djing recordings by
Mora's Modern Rhythmists (2006)
Preservation Hall Jazz Band (2001)
Wynonie Harris (1954)
Turk Murphy's Jazz Band (1947)
If I had to pick one, it would have to be Mora's.

It's been around since the 1920s!CountBasi wrote:It's been around for at least a year, that I know of. I first heard it in a class at CJ last May.

I found the PHJB version when I picked up some random cds in New Orleans last year. It took a while before I realized that it was actually the same song as on Mora's latest cd. And, that it was also the same song that Peter Strom used in a class in Herrang last year (Wynonie Harris version)...

Well then Katie, I'll play Mora's version just for you if you promise to come out dancing tomorrow.kitkat wrote:Is this song getting common in the lindy scene? I don't think I've even heard of the song...

Heh. I just found I have an identically titled song by Lightnin' Hopkins off of a blues compilation. It swings pretty darn well, and has a totally different feel. Maybe I'll play them back to back.

Well, I caught the Mora's version of this song when Brent played it in Minneapolis last night.
It made me want to do an around-the-room dance or a challenging old-fashioned one like people like Mike, Nina, Peter, Lance, etc. go around teaching. Since I'd been asked to dance by a relatively new dancer, I asked him to Peabody. But I would've hauled ass with many other dances if I'd been with someone who knew them.
It didn't make me want to lindy, breakaway, charleston, balboa, or shag, though. *shrug*
