iMixes

#16 Post by phantom dancer » Sun Feb 25, 2007 4:12 pm

Thanks for the feedback, Jessie. Otherwise I would never have known.
It may be that the iMixes have defaulted to iTunes Australia without me realizing. I will follow up,

Cheers

iMixes-Australia Only it Seems. OTR CDs OK Worldwide

#17 Post by phantom dancer » Sun Feb 25, 2007 4:35 pm

Well, my guess was right. I didn't realize that when you set up an iMix, the iMix cannot be purchased outside the country of origin. Thanks again, Jesse, for bring this to my attention

Fortunately, however, with the Swing & Jazz Radio CDs in the OTR CD Shop at http://www.gregpoppleton.com, you can buy the CDs no matter where you live - the OTR CDs all come through Amazon

Apologies to anyone else outside of Australia who may have clicked on the iMixes at www.gregpoppleton.com looking to buy. Sorry to have wasted your time. I have now put a note on the iMixes saying "Availaable Australia only due to copyright

To explain the iTunes rules, I've cut and pasted the following from an iTunes Q & A forum:

Q: >"I am trying to buy songs from the Japanese iTunes stores and it appears to me, as a Canadian I cannot buy anything outside of...North America?? Possibly due to silly licensing issue or..?

Any feedback on that?"

A: >"Unless you can show some form of residency you cannot buy from another country's store. The question on cross store purchasing is asked frequently so I'll just quote the most complete answer (courtesy of Dave Sawyer) from the many given:

In order to buy from any given country's iTunes Music Store, you must have either:

a) a credit card with a billing address in that country, or

b) a mailing address in that country and a gift certificate or a prepaid card that was bought in that country.

If you cannot fulfill one of these two sets of conditions, you will not be able to purchase from any given country's iTMS.

.......this is due to restrictions placed on Apple by the record companies and other rights holders (who are often completely different from country to country and so all require their own individual negotiations and contracts), not by Apple's choice. And this also applies to all the legal download stores that carry major-label content, not just the iTMS."

Hope this is helpful.

Please note though, that the OTR CDs in the OTR CD shop can be bought wherever you live in the world since the CDs are via Amazon. There'll be 6 more CDs uploaded later today,

Cheers

6 more OTR CDs now up

#18 Post by phantom dancer » Sun Feb 25, 2007 6:48 pm

6 more OTR Swing & Jazz CDS now up on the OTR CDs page at http://www.gregpoppleton.com

They are:

1. National Guard Show 1963
Sarah Vaughan & Woody Herman
2 Broadcasts

I have an LP of Tony Bennett with Gene Krupa from the same series. Sound quality is excellent. And this CD gets a good rap from other Amazon buyers.

2. Sinatra in Australia 1959
with Red Norvo
Live Concert

19 Tracks. Haven't heard this but the Amazon reviews glow. If these were recorded at the old Sydney Stadium this is Sinatra & Red Norvo & band performing from a boxing ring. (When Louis Arnstrong was playing at the same venue in the 50s, the boxing ring gave way one night and the whole band slowly slid down to one side of the ring)

3. Earl Hines
Club Hangover

Broadcast 1955

1 LEFT
1 Broadcast
Club Hangover was a dixieland venue, and that apparantly is what fatha hines is playing. I think I may have heard the very tail end of this broadcast one night nearly 30 years ago. The sound quality was good.

4. Gene Krupa
2 Complete
Broadcasts
NBC 1940

2 Broadcasts
Put out by JU. Highly recommend.

5. Benny Goodman
2 Camel Caravans
+ Palomar B'cast
1935, 36 & 38
3 BroadcastsSound quality is always excellent

Camel Caravan LPs I have are all high sound quality.

I have the Palomar Broadcast on an LP where the sound quality is not that hot - however - historically - could this broadcast (which is very low energy) be the night when Benny Goodman said 'what the hell' suddenly let loose and kicked off the Swing Craze? If not this night, then it was the night after at the Palomar.

6. Benny Goodman
2 KFRC San Fran
+ WMAQ Chicago

1940-41
3 Broadcasts

Got this CD. Love it. Great version in 1936 arrangement of Stardust in the San Francisco broadcasts also you hera Charlie Christian in the 2 small group numbers. The Chicago broadcast has an unusual Goodman personel and is very loose and swingy

There are now 42 OTR CDs in the OTR CD shop at http://www.gregpoppleton.com

Hope you find this a useful resource,

Cheers
