Ok, completely out of the blue, this tune pops into my head and I have no clue what it is. So I'll hum a few bars...probably pretty recognizable...

I agree it sounds a bit like "Effervescent Blues" by the John Kirby Sextet, track 6 on this CD -

Turns out I got it wrong. It's "The Continental Op" by Blue Harlem, a quartet out of England.
Annoyingly, they aren't on iTunes. And the only CD on Amazon that I see is going for $50+. Here's the album it's from.
