Music you should buy
I was thinking about how cool it is to get music recommendations from you guys. Then I was thinking about how un-cool it is that I usually don't have money when I read those recommendations, and then when I GET money, I can never remember where the thread is where I saw that cool recommendation. What would you guys think about having a single thread where we post recommendations of CDs to buy? That way, when those of us who are poor mofos end up getting money to buy CDs, we can come here and browse through fellow DJ's recommendations?
So, when you come across a great CD, or when you mention a great CD in another thread, feel free to post a link here too, so we can keep all the recommendations consolidated. Hopefully you guys think that this is a good idea, and hopefully the moderators do too.

It's easy to sit there and say you'd like to have more money. And I guess that's what I like about it. It's easy. Just sitting there, rocking back and forth, wanting that money.

I will start with a recommendation I made a while back in another thread. Our local band Hal's Angels has a new CD that is great for pretty much all times of dancing. Their site has music clips from the CD. The band is a self-proclaimed Kansas City Jazz style band. The cool thing is that they make use of at least 3 different band members (I think) on vocals, so the singing doesn't get monotonous. I could rave about all the musicians, but just saying that Hal Smith and Carl Sonny Leyland are in the band should be enough to spark your interest, hopefully.

"Dance like it hurts. Love like you need money. Work when people are watching."
Come on, somebody recommend something for me to buy. I'm going to get paid tonight, and I really need to start buying more music and less comic books.

Joseph Robichaux & His New Orleans Rhythm Boys (1933) - The sound quality is low, but the music makes up for it.
My favourite purchases thus far would probably be:
Apollo Jump (2CD) Lucky Millinder (Proper)
Many tracks that are great to DJ. Fun without being too cheesy.
1944 Count Basie and His Orchestra (Hindsight)
Great energy, Artie Shaw has a guest spot, and my favourite version of Jumpin at the Woodside.
Note that the amazon & allmusic track listings/cover art is wrong. (cover is red)
Big Band Jazz The Jubilee Sessions Various (Hindsight)
This has been talked about before, but basically 3 discs worth of quality live recordings from all the bands we care about 1943-46

my favourite cd right now is louis armstrong's "mack the knife", live from newport, 1957. i think it's been mentioned here before. it has the most wonderful version of "now you has jazz". yes, it may just have edged "revolver" out of the top spot of Best Albums Evvvvvarrr -- for a while.
and get those 40 cd history label sets for ~$40 each. ("from swing to bebop", "big bands", and "ellington". haven't heard the "blues" or "piano legends" ones yet, but here's guessing they're great fun, too.)
