dropping in...
I'd like like to make my first post to this forum with two disclaimers. The first one is this:
"I don't play 'swing'. I play jazz and I play blues."
And the second:
"I consider myself a musician or DJ first before thinking of myself as a dancer."
Many thanks to Yakov for recommending this forum. I look forward to reading all of the myriad threads here.

Hi Glenn,
Welcome aboard.
Unlike most of the other DJs here, I'm not a dancer nor do I play for dances. All of the music I play is for a community run radio station.
You can tune in via the internet at WKHR.org
Enjoy the discussions and info. I've read a lot of good suggestions from the pro DJs here regarding music and songs to play.

for Brian in Melbourne....
I never the word "swing" in that context, unless you're referring to a piece of playground equipment.
I know that many out there (including my girlfriend) use the word as a noun to describe the type of music, but it's wrong. 'Swing' is a VERB.
Jazz swings. Basie swings. Duke swings. Gene Harris swings-- and grooves like hell.
I sometimes get into heated discussions about the word. Now if I can only convince the masses....

It's both a noun and a verb dependant upon it's definition. It's silly to say it's only one or the other. The end.

How you use it dictates how it's then defined, hence my initial statement is correct so please dispense with the useless commentary.
