Why are all the DJs male?
Moderators: Mr Awesomer, JesseMiner, CafeSavoy
My first thought was "why would someone still feel it novel enough to advertise a gal-only event?" I thought, we had "one, no two, gal-only DJed events this week." I would more likely take note of an all-guy night in Houston before an all-gal night.
Then I realized what I had just thought.
Viva the DJgal revolution.

Yet again proves the disadvantage of being a female DJ.GuruReuben wrote:Question: Why are all the DJs male?

I have a background as a musician (but am not a math person by any means), so I started DJing because I thought the person hosting a radio show at the campus station sucked and I applied for that position the next year and got it. I became swing DJ by default because we had a very small scene and I had the most CDs and DJ experience.
I, too, have noticed that DJing seems to be male-dominated and I can agree with the whole men like to talk specs theory. I guess I was lucky I didn't have to break through the glass ceiling, so to speak, because I have always been one of the people in charge. I'm no longer in charge, but I do try to stay ahead of the game, always have new music, and I've recently started hosting my own venue.
Even when I was broke and poor in college, I would always put aside enough money to buy at least one CD a month. You do have to have a drive, you have to want the music, find as much of it as you can...at least that's what I keep thinking. It's something I want to do and I find it all very rewarding.
