Need Help Finding a Song

Mike,
Thanks for the info on the song title as well as the dancers. I figured you'd know what I was talking about.
The version of "Keep on Jumping" by Earl Hines on this album comes pretty close.

Doug,
Not sure what your "cryptic" comment was supposed to mean - but thanks for trying.

OK, I have my own mystery songs that I'd like some help identifying. A couple I've had for a while, a few I got from Bernard of Toulouse, and one of those was labeled from Virginia. Actually, I know some of the info, or have guesses myself, but I left them completely unlabeled so you could more fully enjoy the puzzle. If you get them all, I'll give you a prize for being "the most diverse & knowledgeable swing DJ".

You know this idea of uploading clips is pretty cool. Why don't we all do this more? We talk about music in words so much, it's pretty cool to use actual examples. I know why I hadn't done it. Laziness, lack of server space, and slow internet connection. Well, now I have road-runner cable, problem solved.
What I did was opened a .WAV file in Cool Edit Pro (now its called something else)(other editors would certainly work just as well), selected a part of a song, saved the selection as a .MP3 at 96k, ran cuteFTP (other FTP programs would certainly work as well), and uploaded the clips to the server I have space at. Fairly painless.

Mystry 6 is Benny's Bugle with Benny Goodman & Charlie Christian on guitar from the album
http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&ui ... jueay34xg7
which is an old school DJ essential.
And Ron - although you & I generally have different tastes, Mystery 1 is one more recent cut that I could actually DJ with. Great drive. Ride cymbals, especially with sizzle, trump chicking high hats any day!

And to round out the bunch, track #5 is "Cut Chemist Suite" by Ozomotli off of their self-titled album Ozomotli. I play this tune quite often at the end of dances. It's a great party song. If you like it, you might want to check out Jurassic 5's Quality Control, as both the rapper Chali 2na and DJ Cut Chemist are part of that group and have a very similiar sound there.
"Greasy Sack Blues" is an awesome tune that Mark D'Olimpio used to play all the time at The Doghouse, and it took me and my friend Erik ages to figure out what it was and where it was from due to Mark having the song labeled wrong on his minidisc.
The cut "I Just Wanna Make Love To You" by Jimmy Smith with Etta James singing is great! I haven't listened to that album in ages. Thanks for the reminder. I've pulled it out and am playing it right now.
I'm going to have to dig out that Christian/Goodman album later and give it another listen as well - been a while.
Last but not least, it's funny to have to go all the way to France to hear the small, but great, Austin, TX band Victrola (weren't you there to see them perform at ALX 2002?). You should contact Matt Jones about getting ahold of the full album as there is another cut "Lock and Key" which I enjoy playing as well.
Jesse
Note: Edited to correct the spelling of Etta James' name

I can check tonight.JesseMiner wrote: Last but not least, it's funny to have to go all the way to France to hear the small, but great, Austin, TX band Victrola (weren't you there to see them perform at ALX 2002?). Otherwise, you can buy Victrola at http://www.waterloorecords.com.
The songs that people prefer to dance to are on the first, self titled album.
Victrola broke up in 2003. However, the lead singer is in a new band called ACME Song Co., they have a weekly gig in Austin that draws a lot of dancers. ACME Song Co also features Glover Gill, the pianist for 8 1/2 Sovenirs and a singer by the name of Robert Kraft*. Sort of a local Austin, all star, jazz band.
They are on the list of potential bands for ALX 5 (Set for Sep 17-19), but we have not booked anybody yet.
Nathan
* Not the same Robert Kraft that recorded/played piano/sang for RCA in the 80s

Boy, that didn't take people long! Now I hope everyone noticed that Rayned actually didn't get every one of them! Of course it wasn't actually a swing song...
That Woody Herman tune did indeed come from SF via Meeshi years ago, so maybe he got it from Marc. I'm glad I finally know the title, it really bugs me to play a song that I don't know the title of. What's up with Marc D'Olympio these days?
Oh, those songs are Victrola! Yes, I remember them at ALX2002! I remember thinking they were good, but somehow I left the exchange without buying their CD.
Jimmy Smith on Dot Com Blues with Etta James (not Ella Jones, according to the notes). Oh that's who the singer is.

Marc is alive and well living in NYC with his wife Stephanie (they moved there last June). He's not DJing much these days, but Dave did get him to come out and be guest DJ at Frim Fram a few months ago.Ron wrote:What's up with Marc D'Olympio these days?
Etta James, Etta Jones, Ella Johnson, etc... So confusing.Ron wrote:There's Etta Jones, too. I guess all the memory locations got scrambled.

I hope this isn't in bad form. There's a copy of the 2003 All-Bal weekend competition CD floating around. Here's the song list (no artists given, except track 22):
1 - Cavernism
2 - Black Coffee
3 - Go Harlem
4 - Jazz Cocktail
5 - Let's Get Together
6 - Wolverine Blues
7 - Wrappen it up
8 - Claps Hands, Here Comes Charlie
9 - Well Git It
10 - Don’t be that way
11 - In the bag
12 - Dancin' with the Debutante
13 - Balls of Fire
14 - Ballin' the Jack
15 - How High the Moon
16 - Swingin' on the Teagarden Gate
17 - Red Bank Boogie
18 - Undecided
19 - Jump Jack Jump
20 - Jivin' the Vibes
21 - Tappin' Off
22 - The Boilermakes Jazz Band, Song Unknown
I just started going through the CD, trying to put an artist to each track. Has anyone figured out the artists for these songs?
I don't have hosting space or I'd post a 30 sec clip of each a la Ron.
