What Ray Charles CDs do you like? What Ray Charles songs do you play? So much Ray Charles out there, just curious what goes over well in other towns.

I will get things started.

Blues + Jazz,

every blue moon I might play "Deep in the Heart of Texas" as a novelty song.

I don't remember which albums they're off of offhand, but the three I play the most are "Hard Time", "Rockhouse" and "Moanin'"

Booty Butt goes over great with the Westie crossover crowd. Mess Around is a fun bal tune if you put it in the set right.

Hit the Road Jack is a nice one to close down a set with

You and I with Betty Carter is good too.

There is also a CD series called "Artist's Choise" where artist pick out music that influences them, and Ray Charles is fantastic... it has everything from Harry James to Willie Nelson. The liner notes are fascinating.

Of course all the songs metioned above are fantastic too...

I think Ray Charles is really widely known and a great way to bridge the gap between hardcore hoppers and newer dancers. Plus it casts a really fun vibe over the room. Yay for Ray Charles!

LONELY AVENUE!!

i have a nice LP (inherited from my grandfather) called "Sweet & Sour Tears"... it's all songs that reference crying in the title. a few songs are danceable: 'Teardrops From My Eyes' f'rinstance

I try and stay away from Rockhouse and Hardtimes, since it's just a tad overplayed around here.

But not many people out here have touched 'Swanee River Rock' or 'You Are My Sunshine.' I also have been playing stuff from the Chronological Classics, which I believe came out recently.

Yes yes, Teardrops is a good one from that album, but overall I don't recall it being that great...I'll have to also give it another listen...

On my list of CDs to get is Live in Montreux; I've heard a couple tracks from it and it sounds awesome.

And if I may digress for a second, does anyone else think of The Cosby Show when they hear "Night Time is the Right Time"?
