Wingy Mannone
Does anyone listen to these small group masterpieces of 52nd Street style Jazz? They are all uniformly good with some of them standing way out in front.
Some were on Vocalion and then he went over to Bluebird.
I don't think I have seen him mention on here.....except for "Stop the War".

Will big bands ever come back?

Perhaps cause the rest of us are listening to Wingy ManoneEyeball wrote: I don't think I have seen him mention on here.....except for "Stop the War".

I've been getting into his earlier stuff such as Isle of Capri (1935) recently.
I was however a bit disappointed by the later tracks that were included in the Chu Berry Mosaic box. Weak playing on most numbers, no real punch. Listen to Royal Garden Blues for instance. It sounds like the band is half asleep.

Great LP!

And more!
So nice to see these again. They all had great sound quality unmatched at the time and maybe still.
Wow - 2 towns over from me. I will check it out. Anyone want 9 dollar Victor Vintage LPs?

i like wingy a lot. i have the mosaic louis prima/wingy manone brunswick & vocalion set--it's wonderful. i especially like the harlem hot shots recordings from 1935.
things i believe i've played at dances:
every little moment
sweet and slow
lulu's back in town
jumpy nerves
a little door, a little lock, a little key
