Kansas City - The Song

#1 Post by Nate Dogg » Thu Jun 01, 2006 10:54 pm

Since I could not find a thread about the song, I figured I would start one.

The inspiration is this post from the Tuwa Shanty Blog.

Obviously, a heavily recorded song. I even own a commercially released CD that is nothing by different versions of Kansas City.

What versions do you like to play? I am partial to the Jay McShann and Al Casey version (turned on to me by Jerry Warwick, on this board I think, from the CD "Best of Friends").

Other playable versions in my rotation - Junior Brown (when I want something with country flavor, yet still feels comfortable to the swing dancers), Barbara Morrison, Joey DeFrancesco, Jay McShann (from one of his Definitive Black and Blue Sessions CDs), Pinetop Perkins, and Jerry Williams.

I play a great version by Jimmy Witherspoon that swing hard and has allot of playful interputations of the vocal timing.

Definitively dreadful version : Rick Moranis as Linsk Menjuvic in THE LAST POLKA.

Unique.
