If the old stuff has been maintained, I think it sounds just as good as newer ones. I haven't had a chance to listen to any tube stuff yet though. I prefer to buy old because it works just as well but for a fraction of the cost. Sometimes I'll even just pick up some cheap ones at a garage sale for $10, clean it up and sell it again online for $40.

A man and his receivers from 1978.
One of the captions stated that one of these weighed 75 pounds!

For my bedroom I was considering getting some audioengines (A2), but instead went with the M-Audio AV40 which was about half price.

Behind the stereo is my trumpet wall of fame. Louis is top and center flanked by Dizzy, Roy & Clark (l), and Maynard (r). Bottom row is Chuck and Clark.
The other walls of the room are also adorned with album covers of jazz musicians. I've joked that I have more black men in my basement than anyone else in (/insert your favorite local vanilla white suburb here/).

Heh, before clicking your link I was sort of hoping that you had their actual trumpets on your wall.

It looks like you have two identical CD players. Cool.
(edited to hide my mistake.)

Those look like CD changers, not receivers.

You're right! Now it makes sense! I guess I am still the only guy with 2 of the same receiver.

i've stared at this image for a good five minutes now, and i still don't know what's going on between the chair and his butt.
is he levitating? is that a tiny sidetable, standing underneath the chair? also, does that chair have only one arm rest?
bizarre.

Hence the exceptionally smug expression on his face. It's his secret, and he's not telling.
