Nero? Really?

#1 Post by Greg Avakian » Wed Feb 26, 2003 12:32 pm

All the recomendations for Nero surprised me.

Does anyone here use it?

I've been using Music Match and am pretty unimpressed.

Any other suggestions?

i use it, i like it alot

the only thing that I dont like about the newer version is the playlist editor. i liked the older version of that better, simple and easy to use. the new one has more enhanced features and whatnot.

overall, i like it. tons of patches and updates. good product

I do my own playlisting, though.

***Warning: Blatent Plug***

Nero is ok, but Can I recommend RecordNow Max?

Yes, I am an employee ;)

Honestly, I've had issues with Nero in the past, such as blue screens and coasters...

nero has worked quite nicely for me for burning both audio and data cds. I've had very few coasters and no crashes. I don't know what version it is though since it's the one that came with my drive (and I'm not at home now to check it).

It's when your burner, computer, or most likely your software screws up and burns a worthless CDR, ie one that won't play for any number of reasons.

It also refers to much of your music collection. I keeeeeed.

Nero - all the time

#9 Post by LazyP » Thu Feb 27, 2003 4:06 am

I haven't seen any other burner software which works as well as Nero.
It can be used by a beginner as well as a pro.
It has nice features for overburning and removing silence between tracks etc. It also can normalize your audio cds (making the volume similar on all tracks) etc. I have yet to find something I can't do with nero.

I've used nero on other setups in the past and, like most said, was happy with the options it provided.

P.S. Greg - buy me a drink in Houston and I'll crowbar Roob in the shins for you - we'll split his cd's.

I have so much good music to carry around; I really don't need any "filler"

i haven't found the normalizing feature on it to be that good, it does an ok job at a small level, but anytime that you have to jump something up really strong, it doesn't perform

that migth be so, I haven't used it that much or tried it on very different volumes. Do you have any tip for another software to use for this instead?

Ex recording engineer here:
The normalizing feature should be a compressor, not a limiter. In other words, the volume above a certain threshold is "compressed" in a ratio rather than cut off. Imagine the "squashed" sound you'd get if the software totally limited the horns that come crashing in after the intro of those live Basie versions of Moten Swing....
It may also adjust the average level of each song without compressing or limiting the individual highlights within each song itself.
