Songs Stuck In Your Head

#1 Post by Roy » Thu Oct 30, 2003 12:28 pm

Do you have a song stuck in your head right now?

I do, Ellington's piano rift at the beginning of Squeeze Me on Ellington and Hodges side by side is stuck in my brain.

"Grand Central" by the Nagel Heyer Allstars. That song rocks.

The Indiana Jones theme.

It's easy to sit there and say you'd like to have more money. And I guess that's what I like about it. It's easy. Just sitting there, rocking back and forth, wanting that money.

I have a mix of Basie pieces stuck in my head right now. I think that the mix includes "Topsy," "Feather Merchant," and "John's Idea." The last one is probably going to force "Jumpin' at the Woodside" in there, too.

I've got a crazy combo of Flying Home - Illinois Jacquet and Whatcha Know Joe - Will Bradley flying around in my head. It's getting confusing in there.

The University of Cincinatti did some research on stuck song syndrome.

I know it sounds like one of those dubious "fun facts" that get passed around in email forwards, but the German language really does have a word for a song that gets stuck in your head. It's "Ohrwurm," which literally means "ear-worm," just like in Swifty's article.

I saw that article yesterday and thought it was interesting that someone devoted time and money to studying songs that get stuck in your head.

By way, today's "earworm" song for me is "Thriller". The oldies station here played it for the Halloween morning drive.

Wouldn't It Be Loverly, by Shelly Manne/Andre Previn/Leroy Vinnegar Trio, the melody is super catchy.
