Good deals

#1 Post by lindyholic » Mon Oct 13, 2003 2:53 pm

I figure it'd be cool to have a thread to let people know of good deals they find of stuff that others might like.

Please note, the one I'm showing is ebay.ca cuz I'm a Canadian freak, so the price is in Canadian dollars.

This is the blanton-webster band, and there's two other cds. It's at 5$ american right now.

It's worth the $5 just for the song "Daybreak Express" (on the 5th disc) if you ask me. :P

Word, that song is awesome, I wish I didn't go out and buy that Duke Ellington 4 cd set yesterday, this is MUCH cheaper.

Dammit, the price just jumped up two bids in 5 minutes. I hope this stays down and I can get it. :-(

"Daybreak Express" is so much fun! I haven't played it at a dance, though. Do people usually do shag or bal when you play it?

Hmm...I'm trying to think if I've ever actually played it, haha. I think I played it one time, and a few people danced balboa (it was a really small venue).

By the way, I see that you're from Florida. Out of curiosity, do you DJ in Tampa/St. Pete on Sundays and/or Wednesdays, by any chance?

Yes, I've been DJing a little in Gulfport on Wednesday nights. We've started to make the last 1.5 hours a request session, in hopes of keeping the place going stronger, later.

Also, I've DJed a bit at school (I'm the president of the swing club, so I can't really pay myself to DJ - it's a great way for the club to save money).

Duke Ellington 40 Disc Box Set
Kevin Tamura and I found (and bought) a bunch of individual discs from that at Cheapos in austin, the sound quality is incredible - even for the stuff from the 20's.

Has anyone listened to pretty much the whole thing?

Is it worth buying the whole thing at once from Amazon or should I just pick & choose individual discs from used CD shops as I see them?

I figure a lot of it's going to be later stuff that might not be very danceable... I'm afraid jumping on this and having 10, 20 CDs I don't know what to do with (I'm not much of a sit-in-a-chair-and-listen-to-jazz kind of person).

I picked up 7 of the 2 disc sets (and paid $56 plus tax, whereas on ebay you could get it all for 70).. I filled out earlier stuff, '24-'37 + '39..

Even the 14 cds I picked up are a mountain of music.. I've used a couple of tracks for dancing so far, but mostly I've actually just been listening to em for listening sake..

They're more worth it if you don't already have Blanton-Webster (or Never No Lament) & Black, Brown and Beige - but I think they're an amazing deal even then..

I just got it yesterday, so I have only listened to one of the CDs (It was awesome).

Somehow when I ordered it was 38.06, that is right $38.06 plus 5 for shipping and handling. I ordered it on the 22nd and it was on my doorstep yesterday. I think that i totally robbed the store that sold it for such and inexpensive price, and had i paid $2 a disc from amazon i don't think you can beat it.

The set only goes up til 47 so I'm pretty sure its all going to be danceable. *crossing fingers*
