I know it's been a few years but I can't for the life of me find out which song is being played in this clip from ULHS 2006. I just love the speed and energy!

The band is playing "White Heat". The first version of the song was recorded by Jimmie Lunceford and his Orchestra, in 1934 I think.

The band, by the way, is the "Bellagala Big Band." Minneapolis has a big wedding-and-event-services company called Bellagala, and when people requested a big band, this is the lineup you get.

What's always interested me is that this was their first lindy-specific gig to my knowledge (it was certainly the first & last time I'd ever danced to them - they really are mostly in the wedding scene!), and they took White Heat well under 300 bpm, whereas it's typically played well over 300 bpm. Compare how much more the dancers are able to do than in 2005, where another great Minneapolis Band, the Wolverines Big Band, took it much faster.

Not that dancing can never be leg-bustingly fast, but I've always thought it was cool that through a fluke of a good band playing outside their usual range, we got this timeless 7-million-view video. :-)

Oy! Don't just taunt us with that! Upload it, please. :) (A different angle is always nice, and a different view of the all-skate is nice, too.)
