This week's highlight is a rare radio transcription of a topical song from 1939 - 1940. With the mass evacuation of children across Europe and over the Atlantic at the beginning of World War 2, the songwriting team of Kramer, Zaret & Whitney wrote the poignant, minor hit (no pun intended) "My Sister & I". We hear it played by Chuck Foster's Orchestra with vocals by Jimmy Castle

This week is a classic Phantom Dancer. I learnt classic as a word for repeat off commercial TV about 6 months ago.

It appealed to the cynic in me. It probably appealed to the cynic in lots of people, because I haven't heard them use it since. But then, I don't watch too much commercial TV - unless it's from the 50s and on YouTube

So hooray for the Phantom Dancer & its Video of the Week.

You can see the FULL PLAYLIST for last week's Phantom Dancer on the radio page of http://www.gregpoppleton.com where you'll ALSO SEE this week's Phantom Dancer VIDEO OF THE WEEK............(which you can see on this post)

This Tuesday is Melbourne Cup Day - the day that all Australia stops for a horse race

To be in the spirit of things, The Phantom Dancer plays you a naughty private record made by legendary racecaller, 2UE's Ken Howard, for his friends in 1952

It's called the Pisspot's Plate. Get the drift?

Also lots of live swing, jazz & dance by Duke Ellington, Tommy Dorsy and some 1929 radio transcriptions by The Dixie Two-Steppers

You can see the FULL PLAYLIST on the radio page of http://www.gregpoppleton.com where you'll ALSO SEE the Phantom Dancer's VIDEO OF THE WEEK............

THIS WEEK'S VIDEO - Spike Jones - THE BLACKSMITH SONG (1942), a Spike Jones novelty tune, deals with World War II-era shortages, as a village blacksmith returns to prosperity, thanks to wartime tire rationing. (Note that the patriotic and ration-conscious "horse" accepts only one lump of sugar instead of two.) See it on the Radio Show page of http://www.gregpoppleton.com. Enjoy!
