October Thursday Guest DJ: Jonas Pettersson (Uppsala, Sweden)

Jonas Pettersson from Uppsala, Sweden is our October guest DJ on Yehoodi Radio. Here’s a little about Jonas:

"It all started in 2003 with my discovery of Lindy Hop, Charleston and Balboa Swing. In 2004 the dancing had spurred on my interest in the exciting music of the Jazz Age, the Swing Era, and beyond, enabling me to play for dancers in my local scene of Uppsala, Sweden. Since then I’ve extended my regular spinning to the nearby capital Stockholm as well, and I spend lots of hours every year in the booth at Herräng Dance Camp, London Balboa Festival and other events around Europe.

I have a strong inclination towards the sounds of the twenties through the forties. With that said, I am not afraid to mix it up to get the floor going. In this show, part of the time will be dedicated to Swedish music, from the old days up to contemporary recordings. Other than that, I’ll fill the air with whatever has energized me and my dancing crowd lately."

Enjoy! :)

November Thursday Guest DJ: Jerry Warwick (Dallas, TX)

Jerry "wheresmygravy" Warwick from Dallas, TX is our November guest DJ on Yehoodi Radio. Here’s a little about Jerry:

"I was first attracted to swing and jazz in the mid 90's with the personal discovery of a Diana Krall CD at a Border's book store. Over the last 9 years my musical tastes have ranged from classic swing, Rat Pack, swingin' blues and even the occasional Neo Swing song. My DJ musical selections are usually big and brassy with lots of vocals. This Yehoodi radio set is not unlike a typical evening of my DJ'ing for Dallas' weekly dances. I make no pretense of being a classic lindyhop DJ. I just play fun music for dancers having fun. I have featured several Texas musicians during my set, and it wouldn't be complete without a couple of Western Swing arrangements."

Enjoy! :)

December Thursday Guest DJs: Manu and Lolo (Toulouse, France)

Manu and Lolo from Toulouse, France are our December guest DJs on Yehoodi Radio. Here's a little about Manu and Lolo:

“Manu and Lolo are Lindy Hoppers from Toulouse, France who host a monthly event called Djazz Session. Manu is fond of the piano and vocals (Basie, Peterson, Garner, Ella, Jimmy Rushing and Ernie Andrews are his favorites), and Lolo has a preference for old swing (Nat Gonella, Wingy Manone, Charlie Christian, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington, etc...) and has recently become interested in bebop music as well. Tune in to hear a typical playlist played by the Djazz."

Enjoy! :)

January Thursday Guest DJ: Daniel Newsome (Denver, Colorado)

Daniel Newsome from Denver, Colorado is our January guest DJ, back for his second appearance on Yehoodi Radio. Here’s a little about Daniel:

"Daniel Newsome is a dancer and dj from Denver Colorado. He enjoys playing for the crowd, and playing music that builds a party atmosphere and inspires great dancing. He likes to play from all genres from trad jazz to soul jazz to big band to all forms of blues and especially supporting bands that are currently recording swing music. 'This Yehoodi set is a tribute to all the songs that have, for better or worse influenced our Lindy Hop community a great deal, to the point where they've changed how we dance. -Dan'"

Just listened to Yehoodi Radio properly for the first time (this is the link I use). It's excellent. I like the fact that you repeat the Thursday guest DJ programme on Sundays - since it's realtime listening only, this makes it more accessible to those outside the US. Also, the playlist feature with links to Amazon to buy the CDs is very nice (but my credit card balance might not agree  )

March Thursday Guest DJ: Bill Speidel (Norfolk, Virginia)

Bill Speidel is our March guest DJ on Yehoodi Radio. Here's a little about Bill:

"Bill was raised on a diet of big band swing and Rat Pack crooners. He got his first taste of dancing at YMCA summer camp; earned his BA degree in music composition, and spent his 20’s lounging around seedy blues bars and jazz clubs in Manhattan's Lower East Side. His uncanny ability to consistently blend hard swinging and sultry blues sets has made him a crowd favorite and local workhorse for dancers throughout eastern Virginia since 2005. If you’ve ever seen Bill’s grin and exuberance when he’s deep in the groove, you’ll understand why he thinks being told, “You bring music to our souls”, is the best compliment he’s ever received. He hopes you’ll enjoy his unique perspective on swing."

Enjoy! :)

April Thursday Guest DJ: Ken Gilliam (Clinton, Mississippi)

Ken Gilliam is our April guest DJ on Yehoodi Radio. Here's a little about Ken:

"Ken Gilliam grew up in the Mississippi Delta in close proximity to Memphis and New Orleans. This meant that he received an early introduction to all types of music, but, especially jazz and blues. It was his love of the boogie tunes of both genres, which made him decide to become a DJ.Currently, during the daytime hours, Ken is the director of The Office of Continuing Education at Mississippi's largest private university. In the evening, as the owner of the Mississippi Swing Machine, he is somewhere in the south, spinning swing and boogie tunes at a dance or reception. His favorite artists are Lionel Hampton, Count Basie, Nat King Cole and Ray Charles."

Enjoy! :)
