Presenting...

Lindy Focus VI The one and only 4-day, 5-night Lindy Hop Camp and New Year's party, now in it's 6th unbelievable year.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are so very excited to announce that preparations for this year's camp are going full-steam ahead. We know you're going to be shocked and awed by some of the improvements this year, but can also guarantee that everything you love about Lindy Focus will still be here. This year's theme: Passion and the Joy of Lindy Hop! Think about this: what else is there in the world that is as joyous as Lindy Hop? This dance is back after decades of dormancy, and is growing worldwide at a never-before seen rate. Let us light the fire under YOUR feet this New Year's!

Crowne Plaza Hotel: Our New Home!
Well, we've finally outgrown all of our precious Asheville venues, so this year, we'll be stepping the whole thing up a notch by moving in to this fabulously attractive, recently renovated hotel, just a short drive from downtown Asheville. The main ballroom and late night overlook plaza will be the stage for a whole new set of Lindy Focus traditions.

Headline instructors confirmed!
This year's powerhouse instructors were hand-picked by our team as some of the top-tier of working Lindy Hop instructors in the world. Some of these names you will know, and some are our favorite "Undiscovered Rock Stars of Lindy Hop"! Ladies and gentlemen, we proudly present: Evita Arce & Michael Jagger (New York), Bill Borgida (Austin), Andrew Sutton (Sacramento), Laura Glaess (Austin), and our old friends Joel Domoe & Melanie Myers (Cincinatti).

Evita and Mike from New York got some international attention with their ongoing appearance on this season of the television show "So You Think You Can Dance?" but have long been appreciated by the Lindy Hop community for their passion, powerful performing, and sense of humor. Bill Borgida is known as a "teacher's teacher" and has trained many of the rock stars of today including Skye Humphries, Caitlin George, Ramona Staffeld, Jojo Jackson, Andy Reid, Sarah Spence, Chris Yee, Chachi, and all the members of Minnie's Moochers. Andrew Sutton is one of the most prolific teachers in Lindy Hop and is constantly traveling the world to share his truly unique and progressive ideas. Laura Glaess is a rising star of pure follower magic who has the most infectious love for the dance we've ever seen. Joel and Melanie, returning to Lindy Focus, are are most-requested instructors who strike a great balance between technique, performance, and style -- the full package! Welcome one and all to Lindy Focus VI!

Update (of especial interest to past Lindy Focus attendees!):

This year, we're going a little deeper with how we treat levels at Lindy Focus:
- We're adding a sixth level at the top for pros only.
- We've developed what we think is a fair and accurate audition system in which everyone signing up for levels 4-6 undergo a fast and easy placement process once they get to camp. And since we'll be evaluating and comparing all of the top three levels, an attendee's final level placement will depend on their relative experience compared to everyone else at camp, rather than some imagined standard -- that way each group is sure to have the best chemistry.
- Detailed level descriptions are available here: http://www.lindyfocus.com/levels.php.

Also, Early Bird prices are now updated at http://www.lindyfocus.com/costs.php.

Reminder: Early Bird Registration for Lindy Focus VI will open on Wednesday, September 12th -- mark your calendars, because we will only take the first 30 registrants. Last year we sold all 30 passes in under 24 hours.

Well, as you may have heard, our Early Bird registrations sold out in an unbelievable 29 minutes. Never have we had such a response in our 6 year history of throwing events -- thanks for the support!

Regular Pre-Registration is now up and running. Because we know some levels will fill up, our policy this year is that when you register, we will hold your spot for two weeks. After that time, if we have not received your payment and if we sell out of your chosen package, your name will be moved to a waiting list.

About Crowne Plaza. Many have asked about the cost, and how best to save money. We strongly recommend using our Roommate Coordination service, which will pair you with either specific people or those who match your needs. You can also decide how many people you want to room with, and therefore how cheap you want to make it. For instance, if you have six people in your room, your cost can be less than $15/night + tax.

Also, several people have asked about volunteering. The short answer is that it is possible, but again there are limited slots, so the sooner you sign up, the better. Our volunteer team is vital to the success of Lindy Focus. You can volunteer in exchange for a full pass, or a discount, depending on your time commitment. To volunteer, send us an email from our website.

A Great Time To Register:
Starting this week, we'll be offering different weekly prize drawings to everyone who registers within a given week. Starting today (Monday the 1st), anyone who registers this week will be entered into a drawing to win a free pass to the Knoxville Lindy Exchange! This event in many ways represents the hub and heart of the Southeast Lindy Hop community, and always offers great hospitality and southern cooking! We'll announce the winner next monday!

Learn more about KLX here: http://www.swingknoxville.org/KLX/.

Also, We're VERY excited to introduce our master musician-in-residence: the one and only Solomon Douglas!! His seasoned band will be playing a handful of performances scattered throughout the camp. The band will cover a range of styles and take many shapes from groovy combo to smokin' big band.

Solomon Douglas is a jazz pianist and bandleader, whose various bands have played at more than fifty exchanges, camps, workshops, and other events in North America, Asia, and Australia in the past six years. His experience as a swing dancer and dance instructor gives him an understanding unique among musicians of the music that swing dancers and blues dancers like to dance to!

Needles to say, we're pretty stoked about this.

Dave Madison Brings Some Blues
We're thrilled that Dave from California will be joining us to teach two blues electives, one for each night that Solomon's band is playing a late-night set. We know that the addition of blues will really round out the event, and we're very lucky to have one of the southeast's very favorite blues instructors help make this happen!

After the auditions, the very top dancers will be placed in level 6, the next block of dancers in level 5, and so on. But once our numbers indicate that we've reached our combined cap for levels 5 and 6, we'll be forced to close registration for level 6, so don't delay!

Other Level Updates:
Only 5 spots left for level 3 follows, and 10 spots for level 4 follows -- tell your friends to register soon to reserve their spot!

Competition Updates
Showcase competition can only take 3 more couples (7 slots have been filled)! If you have not signed up but were planning on competing in this division, make sure to reserve your slot! Also, updates have been added to the description of the TEAM BATTLE competition. This division is meant for any group which can pull together 4 couples for high-energy, fun-focused jam session -- open to all levels! Visit our contests page to learn more.
