I tend to fall in love a lot, have very intense obsessions, then fall back into the 'friends' phase. That said, my current (and unusually long-lasting) infatuation is with Frankie Trumbauer's Troubled.

I'm in love with Charlie Christian's "Six Appeal" so much I want to take it behind a middle school and get it pregnant.

I like Gene's drum solo from Avalon (Jazz At The New School (1972) - Gene Krupa & Eddie Condon).

The first time I heard Hodges was on an album called THE POPULAR DUKE ELLINGTON which was all Ellington classics re-recorded in stereo around 1967 for RVC Victor. Hodges had a rapturous version of I GOT IT BAD. It was astounding!

Wait - that was no where near the first time. I had some original Ellington sides on LP from the 40 - 42 band.

It's all good.

Choo Choo
by Frankie Trumbauer from this cd.

Numbers like this are getting me hooked on early jazz.

WMP on random play just coughed up Benny, Lionel, and Gene playing I Got Rhythm from the Carnegie Hall concert. I don't know how I missed this before, but the last thirty seconds are PURE MADNESS. Holy crap.
