I'm a little confused.

For those of you who've heard both the Retrieval and the Hep discs, which sounds better?

Or are they equal?

The Retrieval and Hep releases were both remastered by the same guy (John R.T Davies), so I would assume they are equally good.

The hard-to-find Chronogical Classics discs would be of varying or lesser quality.

Wow, They have some real Classics Stuff. How reliable have you found them?

Brian
Just an update - A & B Sound are 'upgrading' their online store, and have closed it down indefinately, cancelled all pending special orders. So i guess i'm not going to get that Classics MBRB 36-37 from them!

WHich MBRB titles do you need?

I have quite a few MBRB LPs.

All I need is a CD burner.

I don't need anything, but I am looking for the last lot of recordings they made from 1936-1937. Things like St. Louis Wiggle Rhythm, Barrelhouse, Big John's Special, Algiers Stomp, Callin' Your Bluff, Jammin for the Jack-Pot etc

This is really interesting.
A live recordings of Mills Blue Rhythm Band. The sound quality is really bad, but you can hear how great a band they were.

All Star Broadcasts - Bunny Berigan on the Compilation, Live label.
Tracks 15-17

Good find, bob!

Apparently the MBRB were also featured in their own musical short film. Details at IMDB. I'd love to get a copy but it looks hard to come by.

If you're interested to know, I found that a few years ago in the department store Ludwig Beck in Munich (though I think the store is a chain). It was €18 or so, which is certainly better than that $70 price on Amazon. Dunno how well they keep it in stock.

They did a vitaphone short which I have, it's great seeing them play live but there's a lot of ugly stereotyping in it which definetly hinders the short from being something i'd recommend...

There's a copy on Gemm.com for the bargain price of $71 !!

But good news: I've heard that Chronological Classics have a new distributor, and it's likely that some, if not all of the out-of-print discs will eventually be re-issued. Here's hoping!

The funny thing is that for a while I had two of this CD.

I gave one to a good friend from a local radio station.
