We were just mentioning that it was time to start cracking out the Halloween swing, so bringing this back up to help refresh our memories...

One song that I thought would make a good Halloween number is:
Song of the Volga Boatmen - Glenn Miller

It's time to get ready again.

I'm looking for tracks that sound spooky or mention spooky things in the lyrics, rather than tracks that have spooky titles only. Some examples, mostly taken from this very thread:

Excellent spooky sounding:
Duke Ellington, "Saturday Night Function"
Duke Ellington, "The Mooche"
...well, lots of the early Duke stuff works
Glenn Miller, "Song of the Volga Boatmen"
Artie Shaw, "Mysterioso"
Artie Shaw, "Nightmare"
Tommy Dorsey, "Satan Takes a Holiday"

Fairly good spooky-ish lyrics:
Louis Armstrong, "Spooks!"
Lionel Hampton, "Lavender Coffin"
Delta Rhythm Boys, "Dry Bones"
Count Basie, "Walking Slow Behind You"
Harlem Hamfats, "Hoodooin' Woman"

Fine recordings, but they only have a spooky name, so I'm not that interested:
Dicky Wells, "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea"
Slim, Slam, Rex, etc., "Hellzapoppin' Jam"

And are there any pumpkin songs? I keep thinking of "Jumpin' Punkins"...

Celery Stalks at Midnight! (Doris Day with Les Brown's Orch... dunno the year as I only have a dodgy copy from an itunes album called 'Sentimental Journey').

The lyrics always make me laugh. Mostly because I have somewhat ambivalent feelings about celery.

Gene Krupa - The Walls Keep Talkin'
Glenn Miller - Swingin' at the Seance
Chick Webb - Midnight In a Madhouse
Eddy Duchin - Old Man Mose (Is Dead)
Will big bands ever come back?

It's a bit of a stretch, but I really love Oogie Boogie's song from Nightmare Before Christmas for Halloween dances... the piano just moves me :)
