Carolina Cotton Pickers

I had the privilege of visiting the American Jazz and Negro League museums in KC this past weekend. Some of their exhibits feature on-demand audio files and, of course, I lost the list I had made.

One of the files (I'm pretty sure) was of the Carolina Cotton Pickers but I cannot find a single CD anywhere and certainly not the song I was looking for.

Anybody have anything on them that's not on Red Hot Jazz?

I've read online they also played under the names The Original Memphis Five and Ladd's Black Aces if that helps.

FYI There are some tracks (Marie, It's Our Business, Let's Get Together) on this album (cheaper on eBay, sound clips here)

Turns out the only other tunes I have are by McKinney's Cotton Pickers with Rex Stewart. Stupid unoriginal names!

i dunno, maybe it was just a commentary of their previous occupation. although it might have to do more with the minstral expectations for certain performers in those days.

I'd say it's likely it's a combination of the two. Either way, it doesn't make it easier for my feeble brain to remember which is which in my collection.

yeah, they only list two compilations. The other is The Territory Bands: 1935-1937. The sample of "Let's Get Together" is pretty nice. Actually, listening to some of the other samples I'm going to have o to put it on my wish list.

Huh. Weird. When I search for "McKinney's Cotton Pickers," I get fourteen albums consisting solely of MCP material.
