"Oom pah pah" by Benny Goodman

Hi everyone,

I have looking to buy a track which I am told is called "Oom pah pah" by Benny Goodman. But I can't find it on iTunes or anywhere on the 'net.

Can anyone help?

I think you mean "Oomph Fah Fah."

Yes that's the one.

Can I buy it online? Or is it on a currently available CD?

Allmusic lists four Benny Goodman CDs that have it (not sure how many different versions of the song those make), and you can hear clips from three of them. The four CDs are:

1944-1945 - Benny Goodman & His Orchestra

Slipped Disc (1945-46) - Benny Goodman Sextet

1938 Carnegie Hall Jazz Concert - Benny Goodman (I'm not sure of the group for this or the next one)

The V-Disc Recordings

You can probably buy them new or used on Amazon.

Campus 5 also did a great cover of it on their 1st album. It's an instrumental.

I couldn't access the link, but if this is the set I'm thinking of (the 2-disc 1938 Carnegie Hall concert set), it doesn't have "Oomph Fah Fah."

It's the 3CD-set from Avid [#122], which has the Carnegie Hall concert on the first disc and part of the second, then some small group and big band recordings on Columbia & Capitol from 1944-1945 on the remainder of the second. Track 10 on the second disc is a sextet version of "Oomph Fah Fah". The third disc covers small group and big band sides on Capitol from 1947. A really nice and cheap set with good remastering.

Its definately not on the REAL '38 Carnegie Hall set.
The real set (on columbia) is only 2 discs - that one is 3 discs. It looks like its got some mid 40's stuff on it, like "All the Cats Join In." "Oomph" was written in 1945 by Ellis Larkins.

My big band also plays a stock arrangement of Oomph Fah Fah as well.

The track I meant is Oomph Fa Fa by Jonathan Stout and his Campus Five from the Jammin' the Blues CD.
