Must Have Web Resources

#1 Post by mousethief » Fri Feb 20, 2004 8:31 am

The Savoy Ballroom thread underscored (to me anyway) how separated we have become from the dance and its history.

So, I'm starting a thread on must-have resources for DJs, both on Lindy and Jazz in general. Please post any sites you can.

www.redhotjazz.com
www.jass.com
www.savoystyle.com
www.savoyballroom.com
www.jivejunction.com (album reviews especially)
http://www.40north.org/jazzthreads/whatis/index.html (okeh..)

Yeah, I left that one and Yehoodi out intentionally but good call. Bad judgment on my part.

I am moving this thread to "Technical Questions" as a list of useful websites is really more appropriate and helpful in the Links section of the site (see it listed in the various options at the top of each page - FAQ, Search, Memberslist, Links, etc...). Please list any links that you think should be added and also let me know if there are any sections in Links that should be added to accomodate any of these new sites. I'll then add the links to Links and remove this thread.

This helpful addition to the site was mentioned back when we started swingdjs.com, but I'm not sure if everyone is aware of it and takes advantage of it. Everytime I tell someone new about our community, I make sure to mention this valuable resource.

I thought Rayned's extensive post about Swing 101 deserved its own topic in "Swinging Music" as it is an amazing extensive collection of history all in one post. Check it out there!

Thanks.

Thanks Jessie for directing us to this... I had no clue this was here. I'd have to sit in a spider hole for months to go through all of this.

I look forward to it!! :)

I've added all of these sites to the Links section, except many that were already there. I've also created a new section called "History" to fit many of these new links. I also added a bunch of recommendations for online radio suggested on this site and elsewhere.

Great links section, Jesse.

For the DJ info section, I'd suggest adding:

Lindygroove DJ recommendations:
http://www.lindygroove.com/djs.htm

Lindy in the Park DJ recommendations:
http://www.lindyinthepark.com/music.html
