Getting Debug errors some times

#1 Post by Bob the Builder » Sat Nov 05, 2005 5:26 am

Is anyone else having problems getting on the board every so often.
It's coming up with a "debug" page!

Any ideas?

My apologies for the board occasionally being unavailable. We have identified the problem and are working on a solution.

I was not sure if it was my system or not.

Is there some work being done on the board againn.
In the past 5 days I've had the "DeBug" page come up 3 times.
It's a little fustrating.

It is most definitely frustrating.

The problem has nothing to do with work being done on the site. It is caused by our board being bombarded by automated web-crawlers. They essentially overwhelm the discussion board causing it to "shut down". I have implemented phpbb.com's suggested solution, and since it has apparently not worked, I will look into other solutions.

In the meantime, I will try my best to make discussion board downtime minimal.

Thanks for bearing with us as we search for a solution.

Thanks Jesse,

I wonder is that why JiveJunction has gone to a user must long on before they can read the forums!

One of a few reasons, yes. It make it's easier to keep the spammer out.

Are we still having debug problems? I get the error page quite frequently.

Yup, just as much as ever. I have tried all of the suggested solutions to no avail, so now I just manually fix the problem each time it occurs. Hoping that the newer version of phpbb has addressed the problem and that we will find a better solution when I am able to do the upgrade.

My apologies for the inconvenience.

Jesse

So it's still web bots causing the bog down? Would removing the site from search engines fix that? (though then you limit your potential audience)

I'm not totally buying the bot thing though...

I'm on several forums, of which almost all are running the same version (or within a few revisions) of the software. On the ASEDA forum (Atlanta) you can even see when the bots are logged in... usually 2-3 are logged in at any given time, and I've *never* seen the error on any other forum.

There's gotta be something about the specific config you've got that's causing the problem, it just seems logical. Of course, I can't offer you anything over that as I don't really do much with phpbb behind the scenes.

Don't the bots have to get approved before posting and crashing?
