Frankie use to say, when they wanted to clear out the Savoy Ballroom, the Manager would ask the band to play a waltz.
That would send me home anyway.

It seems like sometimes it takes forever to clear the floor after a dance because people love to talk, bla bla bla.
A while ago we were trying to clear everybody out since the person who had to lock up needed to be up early; I started playing more and more obscure songs, it finally took some ABBA to clear the room.

Playing ABBA, or the Village People, to clear the room is ceratinly a LOT nicer than just standing up and ordering everyone out of the room. I have seen that happen and it is not a terribly friendly feeling to be simply told to leave. Crap for music is much better.

My local coffee house blasts Christian rock to get people to leave. They scatter like roaches in the light.

You could try playing "I'm a mormon", available for download from
http://www.ubu.com/outsiders/365/index.html (see the entry for January 5).

The cubicle mates down the hallway can still hear me laughing.

Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music" is pretty much guaranteed to drive anybody from the room quickly. It's nothing but feedback, white noise, and angry, nasty metallic crashing sounds.

Believe it or not, some people can get numb to the racket of "Metal Machine Music" after a few minutes and others just find it annoying. What's missing is screaming tuneless vocals, and no one was more tuneless than
Test Dept. I think any cut off of "Beating a Retreat" would make it clear that the evening has come to an end.
