Very quick, and funny story.

I was taking my parents out to the airport. I popped in a cassette tape from one of my radio broadcasts to listen on
the way home.

I dropped my parents off, and began to drive home. The music was playing and I said "Wow" that is a great song - I have
that one. Then another one and I said "Hey, that is another great song, I have that one also". Another song came on
and I again said it was great and that I had that song in my collection. I began to think the DJ on the air was playing
some great music.

Well after 3 songs the announcer came on to back announce the songs. Guess who the DJ was?? It was ME!!! I had left
the cassette playing and I really thought I was listening to the radio live.

Talk about giving yourself a surreal wakeup!!!! I think it took about 15-20 mins. to get my head back on straight after
that experience.

Take a moment to think about how silly it is to "keep" a song to yourself. I mean, we're playing music that's been around since before we were born, it's not like the songs are a secret.

If it swings, play it.

I think the real reason he won't tell you is cause he only knows the song as "UnknownAlbum_Track9.mp3"

I think it's a pretty basic tennet of being a DJ that you will get songs from others. It seems hypocritical to keep the ones you find to yourself. Of course, copying them for somebody is another story.

What about rather than swapping cd's you get a whole bunch of dj's together over a weekend. at the beginning of the weekend all names are put in a hat. Who ever's name you pull out you dj your set that weekend with their music.

Would make for an interesting time I think

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but I wouldn't want to risk it.

I screwed up big time at NADC by not bringing my CDs (by mistake). I thought I was cool/experienced enough to just DJ with a bunch of CDs I had in the car. Big mistake: my worst set since I can remember. The only thing that saved me was that BillB and Shorty Dave and I traded 3 song sets. So at least the dancers didn't leave.

I think it would just be fun to see the poor soul who has to navigate through my stuff.

The biggest compliment you can give a DJ is playing a song that you heard them play ... so I always like to ask if I hear something I like and I'm always very free if someone asks me.
