Is anyone else crazy enough to...
... scan the liner notes for their entire collection?
I've stored them as .jpg images and when appropriately named are fairly easy to locate on the computer. My naming convention is:
Lastname Firstname Albumtitle (enough to recognise) Pagedescriptor
example:
Fitzgerald Ella Dukes Place 1.jpg = cover
Fitzgerald Ella Dukes Place t1.jpg = text (t1,...,t9,ta,...tz)
Fitzgerald Ella Dukes Place d1.jpg = discography (d1,...,d9,da,...dz)
Fitzgerald Ella Dukes Place p1.jpg = picture (p1,...,p9,pa,...pz)
Of course I've only done about a 10th of my collection and have 1700 files (1.2 GB). It will be a loooong work in progress.
I was hoping that they'd be easy to locate as photos on my iPod touch, but I apparently have no control over the sort order that it chooses to display the images. If anyone knows how to fix that please let me know.
I don't DJ anymore so as far as I know there is no DJ purpose to doing this. I just collect jazz.

F-L completed! Didn't know I had so much Herman and Kenton. Gotta love that brass...
Also just found out that iTunes uses the art for track 1 for the album art (in terms of the browsers and such), but I can put the rest of the pages in as added art for each track. Now if I listen to any track (and set view to selected item) I can browse the rest of the notes thru iTunes.
But I'm reading that iTunes will be formally supporting some kind of liner notes feature soon, maybe already out?

Hello flyingcamel et al
What hardware do you use to scan your liner notes in the first place?
Have you scanned in the larger, square booklet notes found in Mosaic sets - if so, what hardware did you use ? Or did you get a 3rd party to do it for you?

I have an old EPSON Perfection 2400 scanner. Must be about 10-15 years old.
I store images as .jpg files
It allows me to do a preview scan and then select the scan area to match the actual size of the page. So I usually preview/size on the first scan of each new liner.
I found some free shareware that fixed my issue with the iPad only displaying images ordered by date/time. The program re-sorts and changes the file date/time of each file so that the A's get an earlier stamp than the B's etc. It is a slight hassle, but having the images display alphabetically is a necessity to finding them on an iPad.
I DJed last month and twice had people come up asking who the piano or the vocal was and I was able to pull up the liner notes quickly and give them an answer! Pretty darn cool if you ask me.
Liner Notes properties
Size: 6.05 GB
Files: 7,258
Folders: 26 (A-Z, although Q, X, and Z are empty - I go by artist last name)

I like the idea for scanning, I typically include solos in my personal notes (I used to play in some jazz groups in college). I like some styles that certain instrumentalists play (Bunny Berrigan is a personal favorite), and I like to hear how some artists solo with different ensembles.
I think I'm switching to your idea though...
