I now have 95% of my music on computer in AAC format.
I would like to re-master some of older recordings using Cool Pro Edit, and just take the “pops and crackles” out of some of my more played songs.

Can anyone tell me the quickest way of doing this?
Do I need to change my file types to “WAV” and if so, what’s the best free program to do that.
Am I better off using my original CD’s for the source copy?
Has anyone come up with a method of remastering that has saved them time, as it can be a very long and tedious task?

Since AAC is a compressed format, you would do much better to extract a WAV from the original (uncompressed) source CD.

As you know, with compression you loose information, and whilst it may not be detectable by ear, the more you play around with the AAC (or MP3), and resave it, the worse it will get.

I would recommend a little program called "Exact Audio Copy" to make WAVs from CDs, as it does multiple passes over the file to ensure there are no errors.
