a good stereo

My friend needs a stereo recommendation. Something compact, cd/tape/radio, good sound. Medium price. Any ideas?
(I've never bought a stereo, mine's a hand-me-down)

Little more info needed ... exactly what type of stereo are they looking for? Boombox? Mini-shelf system? Does it need to be able to do Dolby Digital or DTS? Multi disc capacity? XM satellite capability (hey, it's available).
And what exatly is "medium price?" Different definitions for different people?
