Does anyone know of any software for dj's that:
a) Allows you to input all the songs and singers in yr dj books
b) Allows you to update this info
c) Will let you print out the info by song titles or singers
d) Alphabetize

You know how it is when you're out djing, somone comes up and asks if you have a song that you haven't played in awhile. Sometimes when you have alot of cd's or compilations it's hard to remember everything you have w/you. This happened to me when I was doing an 8 hr shift at a depeartment store and by the end of the day I was kinda fried.
I would love to find some sort of software that will do all the above.

I've been playing with one called Musicat lately. It doesn't do quite everything I want, but it's been pretty helpful so far. (I did have to resort to exporting to html with some javascript to make it print cd labels quite how I wanted though)

I use an Access Data Base the DJ SwingWombat came up with.
You can do all that stuff, and it prints out very nicely for CD storage books.

Thx for that info. I'll check it out. Maybe I'm not explaining what I'm looking for clearly enough. Say you were out djing and someone asked you if you had a song by a particular artist. Maybe you're not sure so instead of looking thru your books, you could pull out a notebook or some sheets of all the stuff you do have and look it up by artist or song title. These would be sheets you could continually updat and print out the updated ones after you input new songs you added to your collection.

CdTrustee - exports to Access DB - this will allow you to create your own reports, how ever you like them.

designed mainly for bibliophiles, but potentially does what you want for music (as far as i know, i don't use it personally).

If you buy a bar code reader all you have to do is wave the UPC under the reader and presto it gets added to your database.

I use an access database that I wrote. I have all the usual song data - album, musician, song, recording date, bpm, members of the rhythm section, etc - plus a number of ranking tools. I include a style guide code for each song as well. I can easily print reports directly or export to excel for additional manipulation. In particular, I do keep a printed listing of my current favorites (1200 or so songs - including NO neoswing) but the rest lives only in the database. Because I rip & burn to CD dance collections it is hard to look for album or CD art. If someone rushes up pleading for "Man with the hex", I can quickly find which burned CD has it (none), or if someone wants "Wade in the water" I can quickly find another song with the same feel and play it rather than play Wade in the water.

And as to the charge that if I knew my CDs I wouldn't have to do this, I have multiple copies of most songs, many times by the same artist, and often with ENTIRELY DIFFERENT feels. For example, Benny Goodman's Blue Lou recorded in 1949 with his short lived bop band is not remotely the same as his other recorded versions, so it is good to be able to quickly distinguish. Moreover, unlike some of you, and especially at my advanced age, I tend to forget the specific contents of each of my CDs.

Although the export playlist feature is only available on the GOLD version...
