simple Mixer suggestions?

#1 Post by hepcat72 » Tue Jul 06, 2010 7:34 am

Looks like there are a lot of mixers available out there to choose from. We would like something small/portable to be able to plug 2 laptops and a microphone (XLR) into that can output to a 250 watt PA. We'd like to be able to use the mic as the music is playing of course. Anyone have any affordable suggestions that will meet our modest goals?

Our basic goal is to avoid that loud screeching that happens when our headset mic and an iPod (or laptop) are both plugged into the PA and the laptop or iPod goes to sleep. My guess is that it has something to do with the loss of input that causes the screeching to happen, at least that's the pattern I've noticed. We've figured out that if we just turn the iPod/laptop down instead of pausing it is a work-around, but people invariably forget at some point and hit pause (then it goes to sleep after a bit and all hell breaks loose).

Thanks,
Rob

Entry level: http://www.zzounds.com/item--GMNPS121X
Low level: http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHVMX100USB (has a USB input!)

This is what I own: http://www.zzounds.com/item--NUMC3USB

There's all sorts of stuff in the middle, but I'd wager that Gemini will probably suit your needs.

Thanks. I like entry level. We could upgrade in the future. Though I see these don't have XLR inputs. Would there be any added benefit to having an XLR input for the mic or is the quarter inch jack just as good?
