Does it support playlists and sensible transitions that don't involve reverse effects?

Yes, supports playlists, has search, and I can sort by BPM. The only thing I don't like is that it always wants to analyze your tracks to determine BPM, a common issue with DJing software, but at least it has a option to double the figure it spits out (which in turn is always the correct BPM.) As for transitions, it has them, or you can just treat it like a simple dual platter with crossfader.

I have it on my laptop as well but I haven't used it on it for at least a couple updates. I should really dust off that thing and make sure it still runs.

I'm using djay since several months as my main Swing DJ software on my MacBook Pro. It's quite okay.

The main thing I dislike is that I have to pull a song on the deck (record player) to prelisten it. It would be great, if you could prelisten songs directly in the library (with right click/secondary click).
