I am considering buying this from a store near me.

Has anyone used it? The guy in the store was great and told me it was a step up from getting the Echo Indigo card that was sitting next to it on display.

I haven't tried it. The reason I like the Echo Indigo is precisely because it is a card (one of its greatest assets IMHO). Thus anything else is less appealing to me personally. Not sure what he meant by the Numark device being "a step up".

I agree if you mean the physical convenience of a small card; I use the tiny Turtle Beach USB card that is the size of a flash drive mostly because it is so damn convenient.

However, this gadget does appear to be a step up. First, it appears to be an external sound card that plugs into the computer via USB. I have read that doing so isolates the soundcard from the internal wiring, resulting in less chance of interference or signal noise. It also has few extra bells and whistles. You can plug a mic into this box, directly, instead of needing to use a mixer board to do so. It also has multiple outputs, with the mic only linked to one of them so you can make announcements to one room while not disturbing the other. It also has higher sampling rates for playing your own home-made music and thus can theoretically produce better-than-CD-quality sound. It also touts its "ruggedness," which makes it more sturdy than a simple USB or PCMCIA card.

However, for our purposes, it seems like overkill, if only because of the added bulk. One of the main reasons most of us use laptops to DJ is to ESCAPE lugging a bunch of equipment or CD bags around. That is why I prefer the Turtle Beach USB card. This just throws us back into using luggage to go to a gig.

Do you have the micro or the amigo? I'm guessing the Amigo is the newer one since it's more expensive, but I can't really find any reviews of it online.
