User-friendly CD -> sound clip software?

#1 Post by kitkat » Wed Nov 28, 2007 8:21 am

If sound clips can be made in a jiffy even by AOL-user-type technophobes, I'd like to talk a record store into sending me sound clips of an album they have.

In your knowledge, is there any software--especially that's free for a few uses--that can read an audio CD and make an MP3 or other compressed file out of the first minute of each track at the click of a button?

(A place to set an option like "0:30-1:29 of each song" would be a nice feature if it's a bit more complicated. That way I can hear a bit of the head as well as a solo or two.)

Which album is it? Maybe there are sound samples of the tracks available online (even if the album itself isn't)? Then you could hear the sound sample online without needing the store to send you samples.
