Searching the iTunes Store by label?

More and more older jazz is becoming available on the iTunes Store in the UK. The problem is how to find it quickly.

Does anyone know how to search the iTunes Store by label?

Does anyone know, is it possible to access the iTunes site that is for the UK if you are not in the UK? (i.e. in the US?)

I think you have better older jazz and I don't know why they aren't available on the US iTunes.

I think you can see the contents, but not buy. I can see the contents of the US store, but not buy from it. It's presumably down to licensing agreements.

I've been buying from the US itunes while I'm in France. I want to see what I can buy on European sites (because a lot of the good music I'm hearing here is of course owned by FNAC or a British label and thus not making it to itunes US) but I'm afraid if I switch once it won't let me switch back or that my Christmas gift certificates won't work in euros or pounds. I don't know how I would go about switching if I wanted to anyway. I'm not sure what makes it so that my computer automatically browses itunes US instead of France or something. Anyone know? It does this before I sign in.

I would venture a guess that it is tied to your billing address, so you probably wouldn't have an option to choose which country you can purchase from.

As far as browsing, I know I can flip flop between the Canada and U.S. sites in a regular browser but I don't think I can if I browse the iTunes store through the iTunes software.

Yes, you can browse other regions, but you can only purchase in regions where you have a billing address. Where you are physically located when accessing it doesn't matter.

There is lots of good jazz available in the UK (and Australian) stores presumably because of different copyright laws and reissue companies making releases available only in their specific regions.

Hi Trev,

Any idea how to search the iTunes store by label? How do you discover stuff on there?

As far as I know, you can't search by label. You can only search by Artist, Composer, Song, Album or Genre.

I usually just type keywords into the "search" field. For example, I might enter "Erskine Hawkins" to get all of his music that is available, or "Charleston" will bring up tracks and albums that use that word in their titles.

Then once I have those results, it's easy to get sidetracked. For example, a band I've never heard of has a recording of "The Charleston" so I click on the band name to see what else they have recorded.

Yeah, that's what I do, and it's fun. It would be nice to be able to search by label though. Perhaps Apple will implement that in future releases.
