I'm not sure what you are asking, but usually:

- an audio CD will play in a DVD player (thru your TV, computer etc)
- A DVD won't play in a CD player

DVD is a more advanced technology, and therefore you need a DVD player to be able to read the disc.

Thanks.

I have a DVD that is all music, plus visuals, but I only needed to hear the music and I do not own a DVD player. I thought perhaps the technology in a DVD and a CD player had something in common that would permit me to hear the audio portion of a DVD in a CD player.

Alas, no.......time to buy yet another machine that plugs into a wall.

fwiw - a friend of mine sent me 10 tv programs from 1961 called "Glenn Miller Time" which were done live with the then current Miller ghost band. The music is fine, but the set is very bare bones.

Actually, even worse. DVD-Audio discs won't play in all DVD players. 1st and 2nd generation DVD players didn't support DVD-Audio because it had yet to be defined at that point. But anything you buy these days should support it just fine.
