Converter wmv to avi?

#1 Post by TacomaTony » Thu Nov 10, 2005 5:26 pm

Can someone suggest a good converter? I purchased Quick Time Pro thinking it would convert my wmv files to avi so I could play them on iPod. Not so.
A free one if there is such a thing.

Thanks
Tony

I have never done so myself, but you might want to start here.

Best of luck.

http://winavi.com

I bought this product, I mostly use to convert .AVI to .MPG but it can handle WMV files.

I'm not familiar with the size of the screen that an ipod can display, you may have to lower the number of vertical and horizontal pixels of the screen in your conversion for it to be displayed correctly in your ipod.

It's possible that the iPod can make the conversion on the fly, but if you leave your files in a resolution greater than what your ipod can display, you will be wasting diskspace. (Unless, you want to hook up the video iPod to a real T.V)

The program that is overkill for this would be "mencoder". Good luck figuring it out. It is a massive piece of software with terrible documentation. But it can almost do anything (with the right software libraries setup).

Try Audacity, an open-source sound editing and recording software program... I have not tried it, but, it's free... :)
