iTunes 5

#1 Post by Bob the Builder » Thu Sep 15, 2005 6:17 am

So iTunes 5 has now been out a week.
What do you think of it for your general music listening needs?

I really do like the new folder system for playlists. I've been looking for it since day one.
I also perfer the new search methods, but I do think it could be improved even more.

Haven't installed it yet. Guess I'll do that. I only use it to move stuff to my iPod... past that I still haven't found it all that great of an app. You guys are easily duped by brushed metal interfaces I think ;)

Well, that was wholly unremarkable. Looks the same (well, they softened the "brushed metal").

*yawn*

To me it's still a glorified file copy for my iPod. Podcasts are smoke and mirrors.

I was hanging out for the folders for playlists - things were getting a bit out of control before that. I'd still like to see an option for choosing your output source so i can send one playlist to headphones and one to the amp, but oh well.

I was surprised the folder system didn't transfer to my iPod.

I think Apple could have done a lot more with this iTunes, but it's still a little improvement.

You got to start asking questions when after 2 weeks Apple have a new version of iTunes 5 out. What bugs were in the first version?

*shrug* that's not uncommon. marketing and sales (or more often, finance) will be on your back to release before such-and-such date -- in this case probably steve jobs' nano, madonna, phone announcement. you'll ship a nearly-ready version, and then patch it in a maintenance release as soon as you can. no biggie.

...and so about a month later, iTunes 6 is out.

This is getting retarded.

6?

You're joking right?

No... no you're not. Wow, talk about an aggressive version cycle.

I hear they'll be adding a new sort option next week and thus be releasing iTunes 7.
It would be nice if they would add something useful like an option to output two different audio streams.

Or at least allow you to run multiple copies, each one assigned to a different sound device.

I wonder if the release of iTunes versions are also linked to the release of new hardware.

Yes, that's exactly why - to support the new features of the video-playing iPods.
