So much for trying to save up for Lindy Exchanges...

My new laptop should be coming in shortly... Dell Inspiron 1150... P4 2.8 GHz, 512 Mb memory, 40 GB HDD, DVD/CDRW combo drive, 15" screen... I just have to sit down and read through this thread to see the software/hardware combinations I need to add to it to make it swing...

I have to take back my recommendation of PCDJ Blue. The new released version "PCDJ Blue VRM" removed some features which were very handy. Like a preview player. And it has become a resource pig for Cute little Compaq tablet I use.

So I'm hot for BPM Studio. If I can just justify the $500 price tag.

I still haven't tried what a lot of you do with the Winamp/Itunes setup. Some day I will play with it.

On the WinAmp side of things, I can't for the life of me find out how to open two WinAmp sessions. I've tried installing it twice and having them under different directories.
Any advice would be helped, and can you also advise on what is the best setting for your buffer levels?

I've been using BPM Studio for about 3 years now, so let me know if you have any questions about it.

I am using Winamp 5.05 myself. I tried installing the DJ Helper, and it crashes Winamp everytime (I ended up uninstalling it). It looks like the development of this project stopped a long time ago back before the release of the troublesome Winamp 3.x. From installation notes:

HINT: For best results you should use WinAmp versions 2.5 to 2.65. Older 2.x versions still work but are not as exact, and 1.x versions probably will not work with the DJ Helper at all. Versions 2.666 and newer have a completely new mp3 engine that is not as fast and responsive as the older versions.

So does this program work for anyone with the latest versions of Winamp?

I have used it a few times with no problems on Winamp5. I agree that the UI is cumbersome at best and only plan on using it to enter BPMs into my MP3 tags for albums I haven't catalogued yet, then I'm turning it back off.

Did you ensure to configured it to allow multiple instance?

Select "Options"
Select "Preferences"
Highlight "General Preferences"
Select "Allow Multiple Instances"
Close

Yes, "DJ Helper" I got it working. It did hickup every so often though.

No need to install it twice if you do that.

Programatically it just looks for a previous instance and immediate exits if one is already running... no need for separate directories. So, ya, only install it once.
