The new iDance.net! Online dance lessons and community.

#1 Post by bighappydance » Mon Mar 23, 2009 2:34 pm

Hey guys!

We would like to introduce you to the all new IDANCE.NET! This is a website that hosts literally hundreds of downloadable full dance lessons, available for purchase in a format similar to iTunes for just $1.99 per lesson.

You might ask, who do we think we are, posting on your dance forum? Well, the owners of iDance.net are members of the dance community who have organized such events as Southern Belle Swing Bash, Sugar Foot Stomp, Lindy Focus, Enter the Blues, and more. We are a small business based out of Asheville, NC, and are dedicated to finding new and exciting ways of spreading Lindy Hop worldwide.

If you are new to the site, or haven't visited in a while, we think you'll be pleased with what you find there - a library of over 900 lessons, including:

-SOCIAL LINDY HOP TECHNIQUE
-AERIALS
-CLASSIC JAZZ ROUTINES
-and much more!

Since it can be daunting to sort through over 900 lessons, we've organized them into Lesson Packs such as "Social Dance Concepts", "Slides Seminar", etc. See all of our Lesson Packs at http://www.idance.net/lessons_browse.php?browse_by=pack.

We're also slowly but surely adding to our library of SALSA, HIP HOP, and TAP lessons, so make sure to check those out if you're interested.

In the meantime, enjoy learning from such instructors as:

- MIKE ROBERTS & LAURA GLAESS
- FRIDA SEGERDAHL & SAKARIAS LARSSON
- EVITA ARCE & NATHAN BUGH
- BOBBY WHITE & KATE HEDIN
- ANDREW SUTTON
- THE HARLEM HOT SHOTS
- BILL BORGIDA & JULEE MERTZ
- TODD DEWEY & RONNI CREEL
- JOEL & ALISON PLYS
- too many more to list!

If you have questions, or comments about iDance.net, or any of our workshop events, don't hesitate to post them here. Our goal is to serve the dance community - let us know what you want!

Side note for the Swing DJ's community - (that is if you guys ever venture into this forum category!)

iDance is interested in recording live music performances at Lindy Hop events, and has approached some popular Lindy Hop bandleaders that have some interest in the idea. These recordings would be edited and sold iTunes-style on idance.net.

There may already be a discussion of this sort on this board, but we were wondering to what extent does a swing DJ have interest in making use of tracks by contemporary swing bands?

Question--do you guys have a plan about whose money covers buying rights to issue a recording of non-public-domain songs or arrangements?

I think that's one reason more live tracks aren't sold online. Bootleg demos sold at concerts? Probably not gonna get caught. But published on the internet? Likely to get you caught if you don't pay. And some musicians figure, "Well, if I have to pay that kind of money, I guess I might as well prepare, get a studio, etc."

(You could get a lot of ragtime music w/o such a plan!)

Yeah, the plan would be to actually pay those royalties, from how I understand it. (not my department!) Of course, that's mostly referring to the songwriting -- as far as the arrangement goes, we would have to take the word of the bandleader on whether its original or not.

And now, a plug:

We'd love for you to check some new FULL LENGTH sample lessons now available on our home page:

http://www.idance.net

If you're new to iDance.net, these will give you a better idea of what kind of value you're getting for your $1.99 purchase. The instructors really pack these things with information, giving you access to a huge library of moves and concepts you can use to increase your dance versatility on demand!
