Top 5 Reasons to Join us for our week-long New Year's Party:

THE BOILERCRACKER JAZZ BAND
Okay, true, there is no such band. But we thought it kinda summed things up. You won't want to miss two nights of the Boilermaker Jazz Band, The Russ Wilson Swingtet, Christabel & the Jons, and the Firecracker Jazz Band!

THE UNDERGROUND LINDY FOCUS CHAMPIONSHIPS
You don't even know what these are, but they're so exciting. We're not 100% sure ourselves. It will be one of those science experiments that either creates gold out of thin air or explodes with 3,000 metric tons of bright blue radioactive foam. Either way, you want to be there.

TOTAL DANCE TUNNEL VISION
We've gone out of our way to take care of your every physical need, from in-house free massages to fresh-baked cookies. And if you sign up for a meal plan, you can really be in-the-zone, as this is the next best thing to providing you with a feeding tube on the dance floor.

LATE NIGHT (INSERT YOUR FAVORITE DANCE HERE) PARTIES
That's right, while our DJ's are armed to drop non-stop Lindy Hop bombs, they are also prepared for the sudden invention of Blues or Balboa bunkers, should such a movement generate itself. Spontaneous rhythmic explosions such as these are pre-loaded into our DJ attack sequences. Okay, I'll stop now.

ALL THE, YOU KNOW, PEOPLE
I'll try to keep this brief, but you will be dancing with people from Auburn, AL, Madison, AL, Tempe, AZ, Pasadena, CA, Sunnyvale, CA, Palo Alto, CA, San Jose, CA, San Rafael, CA, Goleta, CA, San Francisco, CA, Sacramento, CA, San Diego, CA, Denver, CO, Lafayette, CO, Fort Collins, Colorado, Colchester, CT, Washington, D.C, Orlando, FL, Tampa, FL, Maitland, Fl, Gainesville, FL, Navarre, FL, Tallahassee, FL, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Savannah, GA, Smryna, GA, Chamblee, GA, Atlanta, GA, Statesboro, GA, Powder Springs, GA, Warner Robins, GA, Macon, GA, Doraville, GA, Kennesaw, GA, Decatur, GA, Chicago, IL, Oak Park, IL, Carmel, IN, Lexington, KY, Cambridge, MA, Winchester, MA, Baltimore, MD, Phoenix, Maryland, University Park, MD, Silver Spring, MD, Bethesda, MD, Ann Arbor, MI, Saint Paul, MN, Bozeman, MT, Buenos Aires (Argentina), Zurich (Switzerland), Asheville, NC, Winston-Salem, NC, Boone, NC, Durham, NC, Raleigh, NC, Charlotte, NC, Winson-Salem, NC, Ocean Isle Beach, NC, Chapel Hill, NC, Greensboro, NC, Omaha, NE, Montclair, NJ, Rochester, NY, Ballston Lake, NY, New York, NY, New Paltz, NY, Ithaca, NY, Buffalo, NY, Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, Cincinnati, OH, Niles, OH, Toronto, ON, Verona, PA, Pittsburgh, PA, Montreal, Quebec, Smithfield, RI, Providence, RI, Charleston, SC, Greenville, SC, Columbia, SC, Mount Pleasant, SC, Clemson, SC, Spartanburg, SC, Clemson, SC, Houston, Texas, Knoxville, TN, Nashville, TN, Cookeville, TN, Memphis, TN, Monterey, TN, Blountvile, TN, Murfreesboro, TN, Austin, TX, Dallas, TX, San Antonio, TX, Denton, TX, Moab, UT, Blacksburg, VA, Hampton, VA, Harrisonburg, VA, Reston, VA, Arlington, VA, Springfield, VA, Norfolk, Virginia, and Seattle, WA.

Countdown of Awesome
Starting Wednesday, July 22nd, we'll be announcing new bands and instructors every day, leading up to the opening of our Early Bird registration. Make sure to join our Facebook group or Twitter feed to get these updates!

Early Bird Registration Opens July 28th
As Lindy Focus veterans know, our Early Bird discount is substantial, and almost always sells out practically instantly. (Last year we sold all 50 slots in under 14 minutes.) We'll let you know beforehand just how many slots we are going to offer, so stay tuned!

New Main Ballroom
How exciting - our first update about the event itself! Our home base, the Crowne Plaza Resort, has created a shiny new Ballroom for us -- bigger dance floor, classier, with more seating and hang out space, plus a whole wall full of windows overlooking the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.

More coming soon... :)

Hey guys!

Did you know that you can pay for Lindy Focus using a 2-month, 3-month, or even a 4-month payment plan? We mention this because many people wait to register because they 'can't afford it right now' or are 'waiting for their next paycheck' -- the only problem with this is that the earlier you sign up, the less it costs. So, sign up before September 1st to get our Summer Special ($220), and, if you need to, break it up into as many as four easy payments! Isn't that convenient?

Also, we've got a lot of great camp updates and announcements coming your way, including DJ's (we take those pretty seriously!) performances, special learning sessions and more. Talk to you soon....

SUMMER SPECIAL ENDS 8/31
That's right, in less than 1 week, we move to our fall pricing, so you can save $15 by signing up now. Remember, if you want to space it out, you can take advantage of one of our many payment plans to make it more convenient. The earlier you register, the less you pay!

LINDY FOCUS VIII HEADLINING DJ'S
To say we are excited about this year's lineup would be an understatement. We have stretched well beyond our normal sphere to include simply some of the best Swing DJ's anywhere. They will be providing the musical foundation for your daily dance experiences, so we take the process pretty seriously! Also ~ there will be more auxiliary DJ's announced later, we just wanted to whet your appetite for some great DJ talent. We've got:

Daniel Newsome (WA)
Mike Thibault (NY)
Allen Kerr (DC)
Michael Gamble (NC)
Kyle Smith (CA)
Rob Moreland (NC)
Mike Marcotte (DC)

...these guys will provide a perfect supplement to the live sounds of The Boilermaker jazz Band, The Loose Marbles, Russ Wilson's Nouveau Passe Orchestra, and The Stephanie Morgan Quartet.

More updates soon! Sign up now and save!

INTERNATIONAL LINDY HOP CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS
So, if you didn't make it to ILHC this year, you missed some of the most exciting Lindy Hop, well, basically ever. As always, they put on an awesome show, and we were excited to be there cheering on the world's top dancers, and were even more excited when the results came in, featuring so many of this year's Lindy Focus instructors. In addition to great general overall placement, the newly formed Killer Dillers took first place in the Team Division, and made a clean sweep of the Solo Charleston division with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd!

Nice job, guys.

UPDATE YOUR LINDY FOCUS PROFILE PIC
We're slowly adding features that will allow you to connect with the rest of the Lindy Focus community. You can now upload a photo of yourself to your 'My Focus' page, which we will later use to show the world who's coming.

REGISTRATION MADNESS
We're stunned on a daily basis by how many folks are signing up early for this year's event. Some tracks are actually close to filling up! So if you've been putting it off, now would be a good time to register and reserve your spot in class. Our September Special pricing is good until the end of the month.

09/15 - LAST DAY FOR 4 MONTH PAYMENT PLAN
Many of you have been taking advantage of our extended payment plans to help make it easier to attend camp. For those of you who haven't signed up yet, September 15th is the last day you can take advantage of the 4-part plan; after that date, only 3-month and 2-month plans will be available.

PRICE INCREASE THIS THURSDAY
Register by Wednesday, 9/30 to participate in our September Special pricing. REMINDER: you can still make use of a 3-month payment plan up until October 15th!

WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT LINDY FOCUS CLASSES
Since learning and improving your dance is the number one reason people attend a dance camp, we've put a lot of thought this year into how to make your class-taking experience as powerful as possible. In short, classes are grouped into tracks (similar to many other camps), but instead of those tracks being based solely on level, they are based on theme. Whereas most dance events try to sort you based on 'how good you are', we want to focus on 'what you want to get better at'!

At Lindy Focus, it's not about grading yourself on a scale, it's about throwing yourself into the material.

HOW TRACKS AND CLASSES WORK
First, every student picks one main track - think of this as your 'major'. For instance, you might be a solid social dancer who is ready to add some flash to what you do, so you choose Intermediate Lindy Hop Performance. Or maybe you're ready to explore a whole new side of things altogether, so you choose Jazz, Tap, & Solo Charleston.

Then it's time to branch out. Students then choose from a long list of side tracks - think of these as 'minors'. These sets of classes are designed to broaden your horizons, fill in holes in your dance knowledge, and give you new inspiration, from Air Steps to Vintage Dances to Teacher Training, and more.

Finally, there will be elective classes in multiple levels of Blues and Balboa to round out your studies in Lindy Hop.

BASIC CAMP SCHEDULE IS UP
Many of you have asked for a general outline of the schedule to help plan your travel and the rest of your stay. You can check out a basic schedule: http://www.lindyfocus.com/camp_schedule.php

COMPETITIONS AT LINDY FOCUS VIII

Dance contests at Lindy Focus are designed to encourage creativity, hard work, and commitment in the never-ending process of improving the dancing of individuals and within the Lindy Hop community as a whole. Contest divisions are designed to be both competitive and entertaining, but also welcoming. So bring your game, strut your skills, but leave your attitude at the door.

Couples Showcase Division
This most-popular-of-divisions is often where the magic happens, as any Lindy Focus veteran can attest. Enter with a partner, create a routine between 2 and 3.5 minutes to a swing song of your choice. Aerials and breakaways are permitted, but competitors are encouraged to remember that this is a Lindy Hop competition. Don't forget those swingouts, people. NOTE: this contest will likely be capped at 10 couples.

Vintage Cabaret
This is a non-Lindy Hop choreography division in which each team performs a routine in any vintage dance style, which may include, but is not limited to: 20's charleston, black bottom, solo charleston, cakewalk, peabody, tap, burlesque, animal dances, chorus line, etc. There is no minimum or maximum number of team members (it can be 1 person), and routines must be between 2 and 3.5 minutes. JAZZ ROUTINES WELCOME. This is our first year doing this experimental division - have fun with it!

Novice Jack and Jill
New to competing? Not particularly enthused about competing against seasoned competitors? Try this division. You enter by yourself and dance with different randomly chosen partners through a variety of rounds at different tempos. A fun and laid-back competition, this is the perfect choice to get your feet wet in the Lindy Hop competition world.

To encourage growth in your dancing in a positive environment, competitors will have access to the judges after the competition for an optional feedback session!

Crossover Jack and Jill
In this unique division, intermediate followers are randomly paired with advanced leads, while intermediate leads are paired with advanced followers. Intermediate competitors get to demonstrate their potential with a top level partner, and advanced competitors get to show how well they can connect with any partner. Competitors attending the Intermediate Social or Intermediate Performance class tracks are encouraged to sign up as an intermediate competitor, and those attending the Advanced Social or Advanced Performance tracks should sign up as advanced competitors.

Strictly Balboa
A social Balboa/Bal-swing contest open to all levels. You enter with a partner and dance to music selected by us. Prelims will be in all-skate format, and finals may include a jam or spotlight round.

Underground Lindy Focus Championships
Unfortunately, no one can be told what the ULFC is. You have to see it for yourself. It can happen any time, day or night. One division? Many? Be prepared.

COMPETITION REGISTRATION OPENS SOON!
