Registration is OPEN!!

Labor Day Weekend
August 30th, 31st, and Sept 1st 2008
Orange County, CA

Inspiration Weekend is a lindy hop swing dance camp and contest weekend held over Labor Day in Orange County California. The venue is a beautiful art deco ballroom in historic downtown Fullerton with multiple dance rooms and an amazing grand ballroom. We are flying out international instructors from France, Seattle, Pittsburgh, and Montreal Canada, as well as hiring world traveling instructors that live locally.

In addition to the workshops especially designed to get you stoked on your dancing, we are hosting The California Inspiration Cup, a series of contests intended to be accessible to social dancers. We hope that the format and staff for the weekend will forever change the focus of local lindy hop and transition us from a mostly social dance scene into a breeding ground of lindy hoppers motivated by innovation and inspiration.

Why are we throwing Inspiration Weekend?

Our goal PART 1: To bring out instructors who are both inspired and inspiring to share their latest ideas and passions for dance.

Our goal PART 2: To host creative contests to help inspire social dancers to participate in the competitive aspect of lindy hop. Our contest part of the event is called "Inspiration Cup".

Hey Guys! Quick update for Inspiration Weekend in Orange County, California!

Hurry up and get your tickets and save $20. The price will increase on July 1st. For those of you who are not doing the classes we are offering a cheap Competitors Pass for $70, which includes all contests and evening dances. Or, if you can only make it for a day we have Day Passes starting at $60.

We also have added some lectures that are going to be going on throughout the weekend:

“ The History of Jazz” By: Kyle Smith
“Swing Music Theory” By: Jonathon Stout with the Campus 5 LIVE!
“Q and A” with Weekend Instructors
“Clips you gotta see!” with Mikey Pedroza

Check out the contests that are going to be happening throughout the weekend. Most people so far are signing up for Jack and Jill and Pro-Am but we challenge you to compete in The Blues Battle and The Partner Charleston Contests as well. Below is a brief description of both.

Blues Battle
Competitors will start by dancing solo to slow blues music. Judges will pick the best movers to participate in the couples contest, also to down and dirty blues music. Dancers will have one partner chosen randomly. Much respect to the winners! This contest is open to all dancers.

Partner Charleston
Inspired by the clip After Seben. Couples will dance short partner Charleston Routines for 16 eights to live music! Authenticity and creativity are encouraged. Contest open to all levels.

You will not want to miss this weekend; come and be inspired! Labor Day Weekend August 30th, 31st and Sept 1st, 2008.

Inspiration Weekend 2008
Less than 3 weeks away!

We are 75% sold out! We have registrations from Korea, Sweden, England, Canada, and all over the US! Plan on workshops all day with top world teachers, competitions in the afternoons, live bands and dance performances at night and all you can handle late night dancing.

Southern California is a mecca of social dancing. Because there is so much available here most locals don't travel to events around the country. To give our scene exposure to the many ideas and inspirations around the world we are importing inspired and inspirational instructors to come share their ideas with us!

Additionally, we are hosting unique contests intended to give regular dancers like you the kick in the pants you need to work on your dancing.

We hope that Inspiration Weekend will give you losts of ideas and challenge your pre-conceived notions about the Lindy Hop.

This year we are also adding a lecture with live music, a history presentation, and showing more dance clips for a well rounded learning experience. Go to www.Inspirationweekend.com for more details.

By the way you have until August 20th to get a special Inspiration Weekend Rate at The Fairfield Inn! Mention "Inspiration Weekend".

i went to this, and i just wanted to say that i enjoyed the bands (hi jonathan!) both nights (rare for me--i usually don't like live music), because they managed to keep the tempos down for part of the night. i suspect shesha told them to play some medium tempo stuff, and they did. it was great.

i also *loved* dan newsome's set at late night on saturday. great stuff.
