Camp Jitterbug 2007!

#1 Post by Petitetonya » Wed Jan 10, 2007 1:44 pm

Hello Lindy Hoppers!

Camp Jitterbug 2007 and The Jump Session Show registration is officially open! Here are some summarized details so far, but for more info, go to www.campjitterbug.com

May 25-28th 2007
Seattle, WA

CJ 2007 Locations
All of the Workshop venues this year are located in the heart of Capitol Hill. We have all spacious venues WITH hardwood floors this year within a 5 block radius. Our Friday and Sunday night dances will be located at Knights of Columbus, but we will be strictly limiting general public admission to keep the crowds under control. On Saturday night, we have found a 10,000 sq foot venue for our dance on beautiful Lake Union! There will be plenty of room to dance for EVERYONE and we will have an outdoor social before the dance on the docks at Lake Union!! Late night dances will be located at the Washington Dance Club as usual.

CJ 2007 Instructors
We are still in the process of finalizing our instructor line-up for this year, but as always, we will have incredible instructors that are cutting edge and represent the spirit of Lindy Hop!

CJ Evening Event Band
We are SOOOO excited to announce that this year, we will feature the very sought after, The Feetwarmers of Los Angeles!!!! Featuring Josh Collazzo, this band is one of the swing scene’s favorite bands to Lindy Hop to. We are so lucky to have booked them this Memorial Day weekend.

New format for workshops!
We are excited about our new format this year and we got the idea because of all of your input. During the first half of the day, you will be split into 4 levels: Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced and Masters with an Elective option as well. You will be with your group for the first 2 hours of the day, however, there will be an elective option if you prefer. The second half of the day will be all electives as usual at CJ. This will help build camaraderie and help you meet other dancers and will give you a chance to have two quality hours with top instructors so you can have the material build on itself rather than bouncing around the entire day.

The Jump Session Show
This year, the JS Show will be located in a theatre with a stage so EVERYONE can see and have a comfortable seat. Half of all proceeds will be donated to a wonderful nonprofit organization that helps kids…Snohomish County Campfire Boys & Girls. Please note, that the all weekend pass does not include the Jump Session show ticket!! This is a benefit and will be sold separately.

Pricing for CJ
This year, the CJ prices will be all inclusive, thus why they are a little higher, however, your total cost is less expensive! Your CJ weekend pass will include ALL workshops, ALL lectures, and ALL dances. Campers will be guaranteed into all events and all you will need to do is show your wristband at the door. As always, we provide a $20 discount for SSC and OC Swing Club members, as well as a $20 discount for anyone who is traveling internationally, or from Hawaii or Alaska to get to CJ.

CJ Myspace Page…be our friend and check out the videos!
Thanks to Mr. Andy Reid, we have a wonderful myspace page. Go to www.myspace.com/campjitterbug and be our friend! The CJ and JS video trailers are posted there, ENJOY!!!

Housing
We have our preferred CJ rate at the Silver Cloud Hotel…VERY convenient and reasonably priced, but the rooms will sell out fast so book yours soon. We also have our wonderful housing coordinator Max who will help you find housing with friendly Seattle Lindy Hoppers. Contact Max FAR in advance to ensure housing…it is not guaranteed! Email Max at maximus@swingangels.net

To register visit, www.campjitterbug.com . Last year, CJ sold out 2 months in advance…DO NOT WAIT!!

Hello campers,

Great news, Camp Jitterbug registrations are coming in even faster than last year. In order to make room for this growth, we have added a 6th track to the camp.

Camp admission includes ALL dances, so as along as you are signed up for the camp, you are guaranteed in and will not have to wait in line at dances. We will be selling general admission tickets to the dances at the door on a very limited scale to avoid overcrowding. The Saturday night dance will be open to everyone since our new Saturday night venue is 13,500 sq ft!! Friday and Sunday nights will be much more limited however.

We are now offering the following track levels:
(if you have already signed up, you will receive an email to inquire about whether or not you want to change your track)

Here are some descriptions to help you decide where you belong. There will be auditions for Advanced and Masters Tracks…however, if need be, there MAY be an audition for Int/Adv…this will be determined at a later date (don’t worry, no spotlights, just social dancing). If you have any questions, email Tonya at jitterbugclub@yahoo.com

IMPORTANT: IF YOU HAVE ALREADY SIGNED UP AND WANT TO CHANGE WHICH TRACK YOU ARE SIGNED UP FOR, EMAIL TONYA AT jitterbugclub@yahoo.com AND SHE WILL CHANGE THE TRACK FOR YOU!!!!

BEGINNER
You are very new to Lindy Hop. You may have just started your first series of classes, taken a few drop in classes, or are brand spanking new. Perhaps you have only danced East Coast Swing. Or maybe you took a Lindy Hop class but it just didn’t click. This is the track for you to get a quick start on the road to Lindy Hop!

INTERMEDIATE
You have taken some classes/workshops and have a good understanding for Lindy Hop steps and moves. You can social dance and execute moves but are still trying to work out the kinks. You need direction on how to put everything together with your dancing so it comes more naturally. Mid and slow tempos don’t phase you, but once the tempos get fast, you have trouble keeping up.

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED
You are confident on the social floor and have taken many classes and/or workshops. You definitely know what you are doing and can execute patterns/moves that you have learned without thinking hard. You can come up with your own variations and have incorporated your own style in the dance. Tempos are not much of an issue…you can hang when it gets fast but maybe it could be better. You are ready to move to the next level so you can bring it to the dance floor!

ADVANCED
You are the crème of the crop in your local scene. You have traveled nationally and can confidently social dance with great dancers. You have taken workshops and classes for years and you are extremely confident…you have most likely performed, competed and/or taught in the national circuit. Tempos are not an issue…give me what you got and I can hang. Yes, you are bad ass but having some focused high level training will help inspire you to the next level.

MASTERS
Okay, this is serious business, folks. If you are in the masters track, you are at a level where it is difficult for you to find instruction to better your dancing. You are looking to the world’s top Lindy Hoppers to help guide you into new ways of thinking and where you can go with your dancing. Nationally, you are one of the top social dancers and you have most likely competed and placed in competitions and/or have taught workshops/classes.

Hey there, my friend from Atlanta just passed along this great resource for finding airfares cheap, so for all of you out of towners who are looking for a great price on airfares for CJ, check it out:

Hi Tonya & Everyone

I have been using farecompare.com for dance and business (domestic) travel this year -- the site provides 1) current comparative rates between any two points, 2) historical data, two years' worth, of lowest fares and fares by airline, and 3) optional free email alerts when prices drop (to a level you specify on their star rating system) based on history.

Some of their alerts have hit my email hours before the airline websites show them.

Has Catrine gone back to Sweden, or is she an instructor from "Sweden" like you're an instructor from "Seattle," Tonya?

so...i was thinking of dropping by bud's and maybe everyday music. the schedule looks pretty packed, but let me know if there's some sort of semi-organised buying trip.

I don't think there is anything organized.

Bud's is open from 11AM - 7 PM - Sat, Sun 12 - 6. Everyday music 9AM to midnight every day.

I'd be up for going to Bud's after the workshops Sat or Mon; let me know.
