*Remember the Revolution*
ALBANY LINDY NATION
September 22-24, 2006

Albany is back with their 5th exchange & registration is opening on Thursday!

The Albany Lindy Nation celebrates the last ten years of the Modern Swing Dance Scene. We have some great venues and some incredible music for you. We open up with the Skip Parsons Jazz Band and then for late night on Friday and for the evening dance on Saturday we have the Boilermaker Jazz Band. Heading up the Saturday late night will be J-Street featuring Albany's own Josh Fialkoff.
Let me say a little more about the theme of this event and why this is going to be something to remember. The idea is to take a glance back at the last ten years of the modern Lindy hop scene. It's been through a lot of incarnations, changes in clothing, fads, dance styles, language, all that stuff. Really, does anyone remember repeatedly calling your friends either cat's or kittens? Maybe there are a pair of bleyers in the back of your closet that you just can't get rid of for sentimental reasons. Perhaps every once in a while you throw in a pop 'n' lock move to your swing out recalling those glorious days of hip hop lindy.

While it's kind of easy to look back at those days and simply laugh at them, what we want to do is honor these last years. While many people mock bleyers, they were really an early step in a legacy towards those trendy white Aris Allens you own. Not only that, but there is a whole generation of Lindy Hoppers who may have never even seen bleyers, or have only heard of Minnies Moochers in passing.

Believe it or not, we have old timers in the lindy scene who are only 32 years old. Honestly though, we have stories to tell. This event is an opportunity to preserve some of those stories and to share them. Everyone has a housing horror story, or a first Lindy crush, or a moment when someone who you saw dancing may have changed your life some way.

So, Albany Lindy Nation will...
-As always, be the central meeting point for dancers from Boston, Montreal, NYC, Rochester, Providence, CT, and many others.
-have a moderated discussion of the modern Lindy Hop scene, so come with your favorite old stories, or just come to listen.
-have "Way-Back Costume Contest." The contest winner will have the best outfit the embodies the fad clothing worn by Lindy Hoppers in the past, so pull out those old Zoot suits, track pants and skants if you still have them!.
-of course, have lots and lots of kickass dancing
-be the place to party this September! Ask anybody, Albany knows how to throw some memorable parties.

The website is up! Check out www.albanylx.com for all those crazy details you may be looking for (more info on bands, venues, etc).
