Seattle Lindy Exchange 2006

#1 Post by djstarr » Mon May 08, 2006 5:18 pm

SAVE THE DATE! --- SAVE THE DATE! --- SAVE THE DATE!

The 2006 Seattle Lindy Exchange is fast approaching!

Save the dates of August 4, 5, and 6 on your calendar.

2005 Jive Junction Awards—Voted as one of the 3 Best Dancing Cities in 2005 Jive Junction Awards

Our website and registration will be launching soon, but until they do
here are a few things you can do to get ready.

1. Ask for vacation days for August 4th and 7th (you'll definitely need a day to recover from this exchange!).
2. Start looking for cheap airfares to Seattle.
3. Get in touch with all your favorite Seattleites to see if you can crash
at their pads. But don't worry if this will be your first trip to Seattle,
we'll have plenty of room available with hosts.

You don't want to miss this year's exchange, it's going to be fantastic!

PS: We will have late night blues rooms :)

We are proud and excited to announce our evening bands for this year's 2006 Seattle Lindy Exchange!!!

Don't forget: Aug 4, 5& 6

Check us out at

Friday Night at Leif Erickson Hall: Pearl Django

Celebrating more than 10 years in existence Pearl Django continues to be one of America's busiest Hot Club style groups. Their music reaches out across the divides of taste to a wide variety of audiences. The band's fervent followers include Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli fans, guitar enthusiasts (and guitarists!), lovers of string music, including bluegrass devotees, who relish nimble, clean, intricate picking, "world music", fans drawn to French and Gypsy accents, plus jazz buffs and aficionados of the new swing music.

Transcending simple categorization, Pearl Django packs in enthusiastic audiences at dancehalls and nightclubs, at folk music festivals and jazz festivals alike.

Saturday Night at the Seattle Center's Center House: The Floyd Standifer Group

Floyd Standifer is beloved and respected as a Seattle Jazz Treasure. Known primarily as a bebop trumpet player, he is equally at home on the tenor saxophone and as a vocalist. He has been a steady presence on the Seattle jazz scene since coming up in the "Jackson Street era" with Quincy Jones, Ray Charles and others.

Today, Standifer's experience, knowledge and musicianship are recognized nationally. There are very few performers in American with his deep understanding of the way jazz has developed since World War II. Though Standifer sticks more to trumpet in his weekly shows, his vocal turns are something of a treat. He was named Northwest Vocalist of the Year during the 2003 Earshot Golden Ear Awards.

Indeed, the bigger surprise comes when Standifer puts down the horn to sing: His voice has the mellow warmth of a good single malt, with the kind of control and phrasing that makes you realize he could have made a splash as a vocalist if he'd wished. To listen to him play is to hear the history of jazz.

Sunday Night at the Century Ballroom: Ham Carson

Ham Carson's group plays swing jazz which is a joy to hear and a pleasure to dance to. They improvise freely on the great tunes of the Swing Era including music from Fats Waller, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, and Duke Ellington.

The regular players are: Buddy Catlett, Bass; Patti Patton, Drums; Bob Hammer, Piano; Ted Gottsegen, Guitar; Ken Wiley, Trombone; Ham Carson, Clarinet, Saxophone. Ham has been the featured group at the New Orleans Restaurant playing hot swing jazz for 17 years.

Hey Everyone,

Just a reminder that the Seattle Lindy Exchange is fast approaching. The early registration price of $50 will end on midnight July 15th. After that prices will increase to $60.

So, c'mon over! We can't wait to see ya!

Please note that only people registered for the whole weekend will be allowed into the Sunday dance at the Century Ballroom. We did this based on your concerns regarding floorspace and heat. :)

Hey Everyone,

On midnight of July 22nd, we'll be closing early registration for the Seattle Lindy Exchange. After that registration prices increase to $60. This time we mean it :) We postponed it for a week due to a technical glitch with our server. Sorry again about that.

Please note that

1. Only people registered for the weekend will be allowed into the Sunday evening event at the Century Ballroom. We did this to cut down on heat and allow for more floor space.

2. T-shirts ordered after 16 July are not guaranteed. Obviously, we'll do our best to accommodate you. We have to put our best estimate of the order in this week to ensure that we'll get them in time for the exchange.

Looking forward to seeing ya!
